Engine braking fuel consumption
Hi there, I'm wondering the behaviour of my car, a S213 E250 petrol on the high way is normal. When I'm driving about 120 km/h in 9th gear for a while and I remove my foot completely from the accelerator paddle sometimes the actual fuel usage drops to zero like I think it is supposed to do, engine braking. However, sometimes a small actual fuel usage is visible and the car does less engine braking. It continues to do so when I leave my foot off the throttle until speed becomes below 80 km/h and the gearbox has downshifted to 7th gear. When I'm driving below 100 km/h in 7 th or 8th gear for a while and I get my foot from the throttle pedal it always shows zero fuel consumption.
It only happens when driving in 9th gear, but as I said sometimes it's going to zero but once it it not going to zero, it continues to show fuel usage how many times I accelerate and let the paddle go. I also noticed that the average fuel usage is climbing when keeping same speed when I have this behaviour. On the trip to my work of 55 km when I don't experience this behaviour I can do according to board computer 1 liter for about 18 km, but when this behaviour shows up fuel usage is climbing to 1 liter for about 14 km.
Anyone else have this behaviour?
Idling when standing still is smooth amd steady on about 750 rpm. When the behaviour appears on the high way and I put the car in neutral, the rpm goes to 750 rpm, but it is slightly going up and down, between 750 and let's say 850 rpm.
