Changing Trans Fluid In 97 E320

What is the proper steps to change the AT fluid in a 97 E320? Is there a drain plug for the AT? Where does the new fluid go into the AT since I can't find a dipstick? I assume a new gasket is required? How about the filter? One final question, can this be done by the average guy with standard tools or does one need special tools and MB special knowledge?

It is not hard. If you have access to a lift it makes it easier. You will need to get a trans kit (pan gasket, filter, plug seal), shop dipstick, MB atf fluid. The fluid can be found for $8.00 a liter. You will need to also drain the torque convertor. You will have to turn the engine to expose the convertor drain. The dipstick tube has a black cover w/red tab on it. You have to break the tab to remove the cover. Be sure to order some of the tabs.
