take a look on ebay.
due to the high gas prices and the SL55 being a guzzler, and the fact that the newly styled 09 just came out, you can get a great deal.
you can find a 04 SL55 with around 50K miles on it for under 50K
these things are starting to pile up in dealer lots so use it to your advantage.
you can get a great one for 48-60K. forget the 70K+ prices from a couple of months ago. That ship has sailed.

Wagz: Thank you for the advise. How do I trust and purchase from Ebay, or should I go look at the car first before paying? I am also hoping to purchase a modified SL well maintained from an individual. Any hints would be appreciated, TIA. I can't wait to get a new toy and step on it. Corky

Maybe there's more people looking than we all thought! I'm looking too. 
Trying to find an '06 SL55/600. Probably prefer the 600, so I can tune it more. 
Anyway, the ebay thing is a bummer. I live in MA and trying to rationalize bidding 60+k on a car in Cali or FL is tough, sight unseen. I haven't tried it, but ebay does offer an inspection service for $100. Given the amount of volume that business might lose if it was a bad service, I'm tending to think it's legit (i.e., they don't get paid off by the dealer to just say the car is fine...)
Having said that, I'm still thinking of flying to Tampa to look at a car. Unless someone living in the area wants to take a look for me.

Hi All: What's up with the SL AMG, I made four offers on Ebay, 2 offers with private sellers, all with reasonable prices according to KBB as a guide. None I have seen in person; what's up with the supply and demand??? I must rethink how to spend my 70k for fun, or waiting for the "AMG Bubble". Corky
