WTB Low mile e55 (prefer socal)

I've found a couple of "so-called" low mileage E55s with odometer discrepancies in the CARFAX (rolled back 10K - 20K miles), caveat emptor!
Cars with less than 30K miles are going to be more expensive, as will 1-owner cars with solid service histories. Getting a transferrable warranty adds cost (and value). If your budget is realistic, these cars are still pretty easy to find.
If you want a "deal"... you start getting into cars with strange service histories, or CARFAX reports that show the car moving from one state to another, then right back again (possibly to hide a salvage title?)....
It only took me about 2 weeks from start to finish to find all the relevant websites, do my research and find an almost flawless '06 E55. I was willing to pay into the $30's for it, which I'm sure made things a lot faster.

These are current 2005 and 2006 Model Year Asking Prices...
........................................AVG... MEDIAN
Asking Price (Mileage (0 - 30K) .....38,204... 37,897
Asking Price (Mileage 30K - 40K).. 36,467....35,495
Asking Price (Mileage 40K - 50K).. 31,899....31,899
Asking Price (Mileage 50K - 60K).. 32,131....33,948
I like to look at Median as well as AVG prices in case there are cars priced either wildly high or low in the list. Those will skew the averages and give an unrealistic impression of the market. As long as the AVG & Median are close to each other, the data is pretty trustworthy.
Again, these are "ASKING" prices, not selling prices. Your ability to negotiate the deal will determine what you pay relative to these numbers, but at least they help paint a picture of what the market currently looks like for these cars.
Hope it helps!

I see a few under 50k mile ones on the market but all seem to be silver or white.
Some guy down your way has a Brabus modded 540hp for sale.
Although If I were you I would stay away from modded cars and do your own.
You will never know how much abuse they put the car through and being a problematic platform to start with, why invite more problems.

An 05 in top condition should command at tops 27K private party
the prices above are way out of whack

I just ordered new plugs and new engine and tranny mounts and the car dosnt even need them.
So don't be scared of modded cars
Trying to get them to change out the supercharger clutch soon also but they keep telling me its normal to have the chirp!
It should be obvious that any discussion about car values will end up as a pissing match between the buyers (who claim the cars are overpriced) and the sellers or existing E55 owners who insist that the cars are worth more than the lowball prices people try to assign them.
It has been said before on this forum, and I certainly believe it's true: when it comes to getting a used E55 it's either "pay me now, or pay me later".... A well maintained, single-owner car will cost more to buy, but won't require much to make it "like new" again. If you get too obsessed about hitting a specific price point, you may end up making a lot of compromises on the overall cosmetic condition, service history or by accepting a car that is more lightly optioned than you really wanted. Keep in mind, it's a LOT cheaper to buy the car with the factory options you want, than to try to retrofit them later on.... Things like NAV, Bluetooth, iPod Integration and Bi-Xenon come to mind.
Of course, the depreciation on these cars is steep. If you spend a year doing your search, by the time you finally find your car EVERYTHING will have gotten cheaper to buy as a result. $30K a year from now will buy a nicer car than you will get now for that same money......but, you can play that game forever (holding out for a car that's just a little cheaper or just a little nicer) and never buy anything at all.
Just a few coffee-induced ramblings to think about...

For me this is going to be a freeway hauler, so maybe I would be best served elsewhere...
With cash in hand, who knows what he might let it go for???
Get a free account on EPC-net Online, and you can run the VIN# for any car you find online to get it's complete build sheet (options, etc). That can help you figure out if the car has the stuff you want, even if the ad doesn't give many details.
CARFAX is usually provided for free in those ads (the dealer ads anyway) so you can see how many owners it's had, and if the car had odometer "discrepancies" or a salvage title.
Good Luck... it seems like you have a realistic budget for what you want so I'm sure you'll find something out there.

Thanks!

27k obo so well within range of being priced fairly.
Say what they will about modded cars. They get used like they are modded, the transmission gets hammered frequently if modded for more power, Look at all the youtube videos that most modded members post up about their exploits either on the street or the track.
Nothing wrong with modding a car but at least admit it suffers more abuse than a well taken care of stock example. Otherwise why do the mods?

Pictures?
Here a good looking candidate for you... 2006 E55 - Silver with black interior, 1 owner and 59000 miles.
In Pasedena. Just showed up on my eBay saved search this morning.

. I am skeptical, as so far every e55 I have seen on a used car lot is a turd or there is something wrong with the car / story. Also, it really shocks me how few people save all of their service records. All of my cars have three ring binders with every service record in sheet protectors. The nicer cars had magazine articles / etc included as well.
I am starting to think the e55 is just not for me (too old and too hard to find clean ones), which is a shame because I would have had fun with it. I guess the other option is to find a high mileage one that has been modified and just plan on doing more work ?
On the e55, I understand the transmissions are very solid, as are the engines. Generally, what starts going bad and what are the $$ to fix ?
(e.g. air suspension - $3k)
