Can 1 of you shed some light on......

BMW's claiming there new 4.8 AWD X-5 does 0-60 in 6.1 seconds! and there earlier model in 6.4 seconds please explain? How is this possible? Range Rover just came out w/SuperCharged version for 06' w/400hp 420ftlb to. and there claiming 0-60 7.1Seconds the Range Rover weighs only 350lbs.. more than the X-5 and the X-5 has 355hp, & 360lbof to. how is this possible? I think they share the same platform/maker for engines??? Is BMW just full of **** or what gives please explain if you know.....thanks....

X5--curb weight 5,000lbs
How is BMW's claim possible my 01' S500, weighs 4,160lbs 0-60 - 6.1 sec
S500 302hp--339to-----BMW has 53 more hp, and a measley 21ft lbs more torque!
but weighs 840LBS..MORE!!

06' RR--curb weight 5,350lbs
******************BMW's FULL OF ************************

First of all, the new land rover super charged doesnt have a BMW engine, it has a engine out of a jaguar, after bmw no longer was under ownership out went the engines.

the curb weight for the supercharged model is 5637 lbs. It is NOT the same body as the regular range rover. Its a LR3 chassie with a body that looks like a range rover.

BMW engines have a engine-management system:

Motronic ME 9.2.1; Valvetronic variable valve lift, Double-VANOS steplessly variable intake and exhaust valve timing.

I really doubt jaguars engines are as advanced..Also gotta remember BMW horsepower = Magic

I got the vehicle weights straight from Autotrader.com your saying their wrong? If they are, the published 0-60 data was also from Autotrader.com I guess it's all bullsh*t then.....and actually NO I don't hate BMW I actually like the X5 quite a bit, it's just like I wrote in my post I don't believe there advertised performance figures at all, unless you can show me some validating road tests from credible sources.....Out of curiosity what are the curb weights for the ML and perf. datas....preferably the 55 for comparitive reasoning...

That's it it's on!!!!!!!!!!But you know they aren't capable of an unbiased opinion, I guess the same could be said from enthusiasts over here...Doesn't anyone have credible links to prove--or disprove these 0-60 times??

the only thing I can list for performace specs on the ML is that I believe car and driver did a side by side comparo to the 4.6... ML got 0-60 of 6.4 and 4.6 got 0-60 of 6.4-6.5s... I think 6.5... the quarter mile times were also similar where the X5 ran it in 14.1 and the ML in 14.2 but for some reason the 0-100 times the ML pulled ahead again which would prolly suggest some unmatched gearing through the power band... The ML does have a low end transfer case that BMW 4.6 and 4.8 wouldnt dare to have with 20" wheels stock. From what I read on the Range Rover sport it was suppose to be 0-60 time of 5.9... the time that Autotrader is showing is prolly of the regular 4.6 Range which would make more sense.

ML55s have a curb weight of about 5100lbs... at 342hp@5500RPM and 376lbs of T. @2800RPM

Here's a few tests from Motor Trend and Car and Driver, whether they mean anything or not

Motor Trend test from April of '02 between the 4.6is and the ML55.
4.6is vs. ML55

BMW X5 4.6is 340 hp/350 lb/ft 5,127 lbs
0-60--6.20 secs
0-100--17.23 secs

Mercedes ML55 AMG 342 hp/376 lb/ft 5,073 lbs
0-60--6.24 secs
0-100--16.48 secs

Car and Driver test of the X5 4.8is here
5,090 lbs(37 lbs less than the 4.6)
355 hp/360 lb/ft
0-60--6.0 secs
0-100--16.0 secs

Thanks guys for the stats... I'm still a bit puzzled as to why the new Range Rover w/Supercharger is so slow 0-60 7.1 seconds w/420hp and weighing just a few hundred more lbs...

NOTKTS is right, it's 400. Also, the numbers you got for the weight of the Range Rover are for the standard model, the Supercharged weighs 5,849 lbs. 700 hundred pounds more than the 4.8is makes a difference, and there's other issues to look at like gear ratios, aerodynamics(the range rover's like a box),testing conditions, etc.

Well it sounds like a huge waste for them trying to tote it as a faster Supercharged version of there existing platform, I mean why even bother w/performance levels of BMW, and not even to mention Mercedes new AMG Kompressor G class. This Range Rover sounds like a "Pig" a brick on wheels..
