While spacers are common practice on the rears of 911's from the factory, and commonly used in other applications to widen the track to improve performance, on a heavy vehicle like the ML, I'd be more worried about placing too much stress on the wheel bearings due to the extra weight.... 5mm might be fine but 15mmm could be pushing it. Just my $0.02.

Seems OK for a boulevard cruiser. I think the suspension geometry would be different. I would try for wider wheels and tires first I think if thats the lookj you want. Not so good for the bearings as Masmole says.
