thanks... I had the exhuast reworked a bit... I was losing a little low end power but the sound was UNREAL... one of the best sounding 55s around... now I put a quiter muffler in too, it killed that drone at highway speed... I am thinking I might go the route of a remus muffler...

My wife took it today and drove a 150 mile round trip out to put flowers on her mom's grave and she came back raving about it, and she is 51 years old. She picked up her dad (87 years old) and he thinks it's a "fine machine". You can't beat these things on the used market. I never buy new, I can't afford it, and I have had a lot of cars.

What did you do with the O2 sensor? Is the original one still hooked up?

A friend of mine owns a muffler shop and although I can play with it I prefer to use somebody good. It takes the better part of a day up in the air but it's well worth it. It sounds just like a stock LS1 Vette, very low rumble, not obnoxious at all but it gets the job done really well.

I bought the flowmaster camaro muffler and the muff shop said it wont work so did flowmaster. You see there is one inlet and two opposing outlets. What did you do to suppress the opposite outlet that is next to the inlet side of muff? Did you cap it? So anyway I went with the series 40 muffler from flowmaster and am putting the flowmaster resonator on tomorrow. Couldnt see a big difference in the sound as of yet but I have more power( stil have Merc resonator on the vehicle). So I am curious how you did this. You pic doesnt show the complete front of the muff. On the flowmaster cited there is a intake and on the same end as exhaust, what did you guys do with the exhaust port on the inlet side of muffler?
Will my ride sound good after the flowmaster resonator replaces the stock one?

The referrenced

resonator wont work as it does not have opposing outputs for the dual exhaust. There is only one output for the exhaust, hence you want a double out and single in for the resonator. I am gong with this setup. Wil post vid when done.

2001 ML55 Exhaust

I see it works to do a Camero Flowmaster with Flowmaster Res. Has anyone tried to cut out the exhaust and run straight pipe? My ML55 is currently a paper weight in the front yard. The head gaskets blew and I am looking at $4k to fix. I bought a new car to drive to work and plan on using the ML as a boat hauler in Lake Havasu. No freeways or long drives. Just want it to sound like a race car. Will I lose power or torque?

Did it

I sent this thread to my exhaust guy and he worked his magic. No resonator, replaced the OEM muffler with the Flowmaster and kept the AMG tips. Sounds AWESOME!! I highly recommend. I don't know why Mercedes has the AMG sounding like a family sedan from the factory.
