It's not uncommon for high performance engines, especially those that are high-revving with high compresssion ratios, to consume oil. This is almost always the case in the beginning, during break-in, and the oil consumption usually tapers off after a thousand miles or so, sometimes longer. My M5's V10 consumed about 2L of oil during the first 2500 miles and my RS4 consumed about 1.5L during the first 2500 miles. Both have engines that have a 8250 rpm rev limit and compression ratios of 12.0:1 and 12.5:1 respectively. The 6.2L AMG engine has an 11.3:1 compression ratio and revs to over 7000 rpms. I'd say oil consumption is normal, just top off with some 0W40 Mobil 1 synthetic and you're fine.

You didn't say how much you had to add. If it was two quarts in 10,000 miles, your consumption is amazingly low. But you also say "light." If you let it get down the three quarts or so where the warnings on the cluster give way to idiot lights, twice, you may have a problem. Early 63 engines have been replaced for oil problems, I hear.
Bottom line: a quart per 1,000 miles is a defect; a quart per 3,000 or even 2,000 is not. A quart per 5,000 means you're not having enough fun.
