W163 Comand 2 "Alarm" message on the display, radio stuck

So it appears that my radio is bricked. While driving I was changing radio stations and suddenly the radio got stuck on the radio that was currently playing. The message "Alarm" came up on the display and all radio controls stopped responding. Now it is impossible to get rid of the message. It stays on after switching the motor off. The only functions that now work are volume up/down and power on/off. Nothing else shows any signs of life whatsoever. Tried resetting the radio using this guide: http://www.mercupgrades.com/Mercedes...rticle-13.html but no luck - none of the buttons work.

What should I do? Any way to reset it?

The only way I know of to reset an electrical component is to remove all electricity. Remove the fuse from the power supply and let it set for 3 minutes or if worse comes to worse disconnect the batteries from the car so it's stone dead. That will clear any errant current that would trigger the freeze up. The fact that the unit cycles on and off and volume is controllable suggests a spike that may require a reboot. Kill the current and then power back up. Oh for the old days when you only had to replace the vibrator in your car radio!
