ML63 Build Thread
After getting the notorious head bolt problem all resolved I am now more comfortable with upgrading various features of our ML! It is an 07 ML63 that we got in mid August with 87k miles. One of the headbolts sheared right off on the interstate in November. We had the headbolts all replaced, sls cam followers, heads refinished etc according to the TSB. While we had the engine out we also replaced the rear main seal and two of the pulleys on the front that were going bad.
I have compiled a small list of various mods I want to do for asthetic or performance appeal as this will be my daily driver. I don't want to go too overboard as I have a C55 that is more of a 'weekend car' that I would like to kleemann s/c soon.
C55 build here: https://mbworld.org/forums/c32-amg-c...ld-thread.html
•20% tint all around - currently has just factory tint
•Black Niche Vicenza wheels - has some aftermarket wheels on it now that are too skinny and sit inside the wheel well too far.
•Lowering links - I have compared links to various elm's and it seems that the links achieve a similar outcome at a significantly lower price point
•Paint calipers yellow to match the Brembos on the C55
•Tune for ECU and TCU - want to find a tune that improves horsepower, responsiveness, and hopefully brings out the exhaust blipping/rev matching
•Upgrade all the lighting to LED in the interior and exterior
•Strut bar and chassis bars
•Paddle shifter upgrade/steering wheel upgrade
•Facelift mirrors
•Puddle light projectors - replaces the lights under the doors to a projector that displays the AMG logo
•CF door lock pins
•AMG door latch plates
This is the list so far, I want to make this thread to get input and give ideas to other w164 owners while tracking my own progress.

Last week I took the ML actoss the street from my work at lunch to have them cut out the resonators. For $80 it is such an improvement on the sound and makes it agressive yet not excessive.
Here they are before removal.

The dealership where we bought it had it detailed in house and the did a pretty sloppy job. There was still polish left in all the cracks and between panels. It was all over the rubber trims and the roof bars. It wouldn't come off simply washing the car so I ended up getting some trim cleaner and scrubbing it off...
It's the little things I suppose!

Last week I installed the 20x10.5 et +27 Niche Vicenza on the ML! It looks really great, but the gap was really big between the tire and the wheel well, so I ordered in a set of lowering links from Mark over at airmatic-lowering-links. It turned out really great and I have received a bunch of compliments.

Re excess rear inner edge tire wear W163, 164, 166, 251.
We saw the need and manufacture a rear adjuster kit that doubles the existing adjustment range of both Camber and Caster – resolving premature edge tire wear.
Kit simply replaces the 4 lower arm (highest wearing) bushings at the same time.
Bush extraction tool provided. The patented design allows fast single wrench adjustment on car accurately under load direct on alignment rack.
Similar system for the front providing Camber adjustment for W163 while Camber and also Caster for 164, 166, 251.
These front replacement bushes on the above later models also resolve at the same time the premature failure (and expensive to replace) lower arm inner rear bushes.
W163
Rear Camber and Toe #503926 $380
Front Camber #503916 $295
W164, 166, 251
Rear Camber and Toe #504026 $480
Front Camber and Caster #504016 $595
Delivery $40 one kit or $50 front and rear kits. We accept PayPal, Visa or MasterCard.

car looks great, and the wheels are terrific. did you remove the roof rails to paint them? also, I've looked for the black AMG door handle plates without success. do you happen to have the part number? they look much better than the chrome ones.

Thanks, I just used a heavy duty trim restore product and scrubbed on it! What about the handles? They do have a chrome trim type on them.

I'll have another shop look at when i go back to college next week. I wonder if theres a way to get exhaust crackle and pops like the new amgs.

Apparently I went to a muffler shop that did an oil change on mine and said i had 4 catalytic converters underneath and no resonators

Yeah I love the popping sounds, the C55 does it a little bit and I think with longtube headers going in this weekend it will make them a lot louder!
