New Mercedes W166 really...

LOL.
Bitter much?
Your interior is terrible in comparison. And your exterior will look old the day of the 2012 release. The 164 is quite feminine compared to the 166. I like 164 but it is eclipsed by the 166.
Does the 164 even have the Distronic avail? How about the other safety options?
Go dump in the other forum, h-a-t-e-r-s.

Anyone who just bought a 2011 is going to feel bad about driving the OLD model and of course will be trying to make themselves feel better by bashing the new one (that is getting fantastic reviews from every car mag and website).
I loved my 08 but when I look at it now it looks soft and round with really not a lot of style compared to the 2012.

You can add distronic to 2011 Ml, $2200.
I'll wait for next W167 or 168.....

Ditto !!! I'll check one out in "real-time" and then pass opinion. The dealer in Tampa has always been cool, they'll let you take one home for the weekend to let you demo the ride. I don't know if that's the same for everyone since I've purchased 3 vehicles from them... I'm sure they would (after they check your credit report) ...

From all the pictures and videos so far the 2012 ML is a nicer and modernized vehicle than the W164.
My decision to lease the 2011 ML350 BT Grand Edition is based on the following rationals:
My decision to lease the 2011 ML350 BT Grand Edition is based on the following rationals:
- The W166 being a new MY may have some bugs to work out and I do not want to be a guinea pig for M-B.
- The W164 in it's last MY should be reliable and I can get a better deal.
- I will decide when my lease is up in 3 years if I want to keep it or then buy the W166.

I was picking up my car at Beverly Hills MB on Wed and as I was pulling out of the service center, the new ML drove right by, followed it for several blocks around the dealership. Not sure if the car is on display yet. Exterior was underwhelming, looks smaller even though it is technically slightly bigger, front end looks wimpy. Based on pictures, the interior looks much nicer than the current one but it is exactly the same dash layout as the new Jeep Cherokee (which are basically identical cars underneath).

I have to say I am a bit dissapointed in the design of the new MLs. I was reallly hoping the exterior design would be more in-line with the GL & the GLK.
That being said, the new interior is much nicer.
I really have to see one in person to decide though.
But, this Equninox photo would be in the back of my mind thereby making it hard to justify the $50k base price tag.
Granted, the MB is 100x nicer inside an, IMO a better built vehicle.
If/Once Chrysler/Jeep gets it quality control in check the newly designed Grand Cherokee, which is built of the ML chasis - Mercedes parting gift to Chrysler, will be very difficult to pass-up given the available ammenties for cost. Again, IMO.

GLK350
When my wife and I first saw the GLK in pictures/on TV we thought it looked a bit...well, ugly. Then, by accident, we saw it on display at a local dealer and it was MUCH better looking IRL...something many people also admit when we tell them about the GLK and before they see it (once they see it they have a very different opinion). We now own a 2011 and have also learned to not pass judgement until we see a vehicle in person (preferably in the color/trim and with the wheels we like).
We also thought the outgoing ML was a bit 'pudgy' in appearance, and the side mirrors made it worse until they changed them out for 2011. Still, it's a bit 'dated' looking these days.
The 2012 ML looks good to OK in some photos (usually in AMG trim) and a bit ugly in others (usually non-AMG). The standard, non-AMG front/back end just doesn't look good to me (what's with that vertical strip in the middle of the chrome 'skid' plate on the front??). However, with the AMG front/back end and the same 20" AMG wheels we have on my wife's GLK now it looks MUCH better. This video seems to do that justice too:

We'll be checking out the ML when it hits dealers in the coming weeks. However, we won't really know what to think until we see it in AMG trim. How long until that's available in the US? Or will it not be available as an option for ML350s in the US?

Considering the previous 2 ML's were stylistic disasters, something only a (Soccer) Mother could love, IMO, the new one is a huge improvement in every way. I personally think it's the first "good" looking ML. Nothing to go crazy about to me, but I think it fits in the M-B lineup now. I still haven't seen it in person though, and I'm sure it won't look any worse than it does in pics.

2012 Jeep Grand Cherokee Overland
I was getting the wife's R-class serviced this Saturday so I was poking around the dealership trying to kill the two hours. Anyway, they had two 2012 MLs, both in Iridium Silver, and after seeing in person I am still very undecided on the exterior styling; very confused by the front bumper design with its large aluminum plate that looks like an aftermarket bull-bar. However, I sat in one and the interior was pretty much awesome.
Granted it doesn't matter to me as we are not in the market for an ML. I am just curious to see if MBenz will gravitate the GLs exterior styling towards that of the new MLs at the next re-design; since they obviously didn't move the ML towards the GL or GLK styling. I'm interested because I plan to get a GL for myself in the next 2-3 years and I like the current styling.

Based on the Spy Pics, the GL will have extremely similar side lines to the ML. A bit more aggressive seeming on the GL though.

I saw the new ML parked in Queens a couple of days ago (it was black), and I was rather impressed with the exterior styling, as it makes the elder models look outdated already. I'm actually heading to the dealer this weekend to take a look at it. My mother likes the new styling so much she's trading her Cayenne for this.
