Rear Defroster stays on. Is this normal?

First picture shows the button's red light is not on.
Second picture shows that the REAR DEF icon is active on the display?

*sigh* Is this normal?

You do seem intelligent so I do not expect you are an orangutan that can reach the rear screen from the drivers seat.

I meant if you got out of the car and touched the rear screen whilst the symbol was showing, is the screen hot so is the heater actually working?
Or is it just a false indicator?

Sorry I apologise. Orangutans are intelligent, but not many own an ML.

I've seen that happen before too. Very odd.
