Excellent job- videos like this will be increasingly important as our vehicles age.

Hey moderators- not sure if this forum has sticky posts, but it would be nice to perhaps have links to this post and other future how-to videos somewhere handy for all forum readers.

Only one minor comment- 11/16" socket for the caliper bolts? 17mm perhaps? I haven't had to do anything on the vehicle yet, but I had assumed everything is metric.

Johnjjo thank you so much for posting this video. YES please do one for the rear brakes as well as there is a parking brake procedure that needs to be followed.

I have to do my rears soon but never have before so would love to see the video.

Also, white kind of brake grease are you using?

Thanks Again!

It's "CRC/Silaramic brake system grease" I bought it at Autozone for $12, this is first time I'm using it!. I always used "Permatex Ultra Disc Brake Caliper Lube" but I ran out of it and couldn't find it at the stores, so I bought CRC.

Nice video.

Reviving an old thread. My 2013 ML350 just gave brake message.
I think I may do this myself, seems quite easy..far easier than the old drum brakes on cars of the late 50's thru 70's that i did in my youth.

Questions for anyone that may see this.

What would be recommended torque for the bracket bolts, as well as the caliper bolts? I prefer not to hammer them tight.

Should I anticipate needing new rotors at 48,000 miles?

Is there much difference doing the rear brakes?

TIA

Front 21mm bolts to steering knuckle - 80Nm+45 degrees (PN A 019 990 56 01 BOLT W FLANGE
BRAKE CALIPER TO STEER. KNUCKLE, M14X1,5X40)

Front 11mm hex to floating caliper - No torque spec provided. According to the MB manual, the 21mm bolts are one time use bolts (TTY). The procedure outlines that the brake line should be disconnected when servicing. That torque value is 22Nm. (PN A 000 421 62 74 GUIDE PIN)

Rear bolt is 60Nm +45 degrees. Brake line to carrier is the same at 22Nm. (PN A 018 990 00 01 BRAKE CALIPER TO WHEEL CARRIER M12X1,5X35)
Guide Pin (PN A 000 421 40 74 GUIDE SLEEVE LEFT AND RIGHT)

Glad to see you're not a fasten to hammer tight, kind of person!

Thanks for that flexfmc,

I ended up having an indy shop doing the rears, which needed rotors. The front pads still have probably 10K miles left.

Updated with PN's for TTY bolts. Added guide pins PN's as well.
These PN's are for a 2013 4Matic ML350 Flex, however, the PN's should be the same. YMMV

great to see a member do a video on this. Saving others $$ if DIY. Not that bad, straight forward. On my e55amg, was quicker since all you had to do was knock out the two pins to replace the rear brake pads. Front, had to do similar to this.
