Yup, no need for a GLE forum. GLE is an update model year. No diff b/w ML and GLE other than name and minor changes associated with an update year. It's all the same generation.

Conversely, GLE Coupe might have an argument for its own forum but it'll be empty.

I could be wrong but the one's I have seen have a modified front & rear & a NEW dash area upgrade. Are these areas good news or bad news? Some models have 9 speed tranny. Coupe IS new. But I guess these don't matter. I'm out of here!

Same truck and same W166 chasis. There would be a ton of empty forums and missed useful connections if there was a separate board for each time BMW or MB did a LCI/facelift/update to a vehicle. I think changing the name is what's throwing people off into thinking it's a completely new model. Remember a few years ago when the W212 E-class got updated, people were thinking it was going to be the new W213 (which isn't even here yet). GLE is is a mid-cycle updated ML. This isn't a Honda where you can have an all new vehicle after only 3 years. The Germans generally go about 7 years with some kind of update 3-4 in. May include any combination of new features (colors, engines, bumpers, dash, wheels, option packages, etc).

Also keep in mind that the decision to not include the 9 speed transmission can also be cost driven. Manufacturers have to spend thousands (maybe more?) for EPA certification for each engine/transmission combination for each vehicle. And you can have new vehicles delayed transport as they can not be released until final certification/approval is given.

Sounds like this sub-forum should just be retitled "ML & GLE (W166)".

That's a possibility. Then next spring rename the X166 forum as "GL & GLS (X166). Timing was right w/ the name change and the GLC debuting as an all new model instead of just an update of an existing model.
