Install your kit yet? No dremel needed. Happy to report no issues over the past few weeks. Still haven't had time to try the e39 adaptor yet. Only have 1 night pic but headlights are on on both cars. GLE on the right, BMW on the left.
I haven't had a chance yet! waiting for the weather to get warmer and for a day off from work. From what I can tell though, it's a significant upgrade although not perfect. I may have some other questions in terms of wiring though, I'll try to post a picture of what I have so far since I too got the morimoto.
Elbow grease and fiddling indeed but they're in. Gotta wait till night fall for some pics. Thanks for your help! As an FYI, I had to remove the orange brackets from the ballasts to get them to fit into the headlight housing.
So, the ballast (minus brackets) plus all wiring were able to fit inside the headlight housing with the housing cover on, without any problems?

Correct. You can feel with your hand there's some space under the bulb that the ballast can slide into. The rest of the wiring and the resistor you can finagle in there also. The cover then goes on easily.
I installed them today and have an issue with the drivers side. It doesn't turn on if I leave it on 'auto'. If I'm lucky, when manually turning the headlight switch from 'auto' to 'on' immediately after engine start, it will flicker 5-6 times off/on rapidly and then stay on with no issues. Checked all wiring to make sure nothing was loose. Started to rain so I didn't have a chance to swap components with the passenger side and see if the problem follows. I'm assuming it's most likely a bad component since you have no issues on your GLE.
Did some quick searches on the issue I have, the causes vary from weak electrical and/or daytime running lights. Was wondering if you have DRL and vehicle locator lights enabled.

Thanks. On my way home earlier, started up the car with the headlights already in the 'on' position and the driver's side came on while the passenger's side flickered a few times and stayed on. I'm beginning to think it isn't faulty components anymore but has to do with the electrical not putting enough power to the ballasts.
Other than that, they are nice and bright. A huge improvement over the factory lights. Kind of bummed about having this issue though. Going to see what the folks over at TRS recommend in my case.
I finally did mine. I ordered the ballast but didn't realize it was only for one, so I had to order a second one and wait. I had a bit of a problem with the bulbs and the aftermarket clips you guys recommend, but after about an hour fiddling with one side, it only took me 10 min to do the other side. No issues so far, the lights blink a couple of times when they fire up, but its no big issue. Thanks guys for all your guidance.
I only did the low beams, It takes couple of seconds for the bulb to warm up so I figured it makes no sense when flashing people and probably puts more stress having to go on and off all the time.
Im just going to replace the stock bulbs with some silverstar ultra or something like that.
Might want to try the Morimoto capacitors to help with the power load blinking

I believe he is referring to the Morimoto Standalone CANBUS harness which essentially has capacitors and resistors inside the module. If you ordered that with the Morimoto kit then you should be good.

Two things: I have the same clips and bulb base however my clip does not sit flush in any way with the base of the bulb. It seems like with the clips, they are rounded in so it will not go over. This is what I end up with when I try to do what you did.

The way I installed it was by inserting the bulb into the socket without the clips. Then position the clips over the bulb and rotating the clips to lock in place. Since one end of the clip has an opening, it makes it easier to bend. With that said, use a little elbow grease and I'm sure you will get it to lock into place.

No, no Dremel needed. I have the Morimoto kit as well. Used the factory clip on one side and an aftermarket clip on the other side. Both fit just fine. Haven't had time yet to change one or the other.

here's my components
I just installed my morimoto kit also and having the same problem as you. It will turn on and off a few times and then stay off. There is an extra section of wiring from the canbus going towards the headlight, did you remove that portion also? I'll call TRS tomorrow and see what can be done.
You guys have me at a loss. I bought the exact same kit, components only go together one way. I choose the 4500K bulbs but I don't think that should make a difference. Have not had any blinking nor any other issues.

Doh! Problem solved! I was testing it without turning on the engine, just the ignition in the on position. Once I started the car, no problems. SKW, how is the cutoff on your car? My cutoff is horrible, it seems the passenger side angles up at the far right with a strong beam of light. It's also very cramped in the headlight housing after I stuffed everything in, hope things don't get overheated in there.
