Soon the public will not be allowed to buy diesels at this rate . I am surprised that MB did this. I wonder if I will get money back like my son did with his VW? Fat chance I bet.

I don't know a lot about car diesels, but I do know about the larger diesels used in power plants, which use ammonia in one form or another to reduce NOx emissions. The reaction doesn't work until the exhaust is warmed up, so the ammonia injection is off and startups always have higher NOX than normal operation for about 10-15 minutes. You shouldn't inject ammonia before things are hot because it will just slip through the exhaust and become an emission itself, rather than reacting with the NOx.

The statement of claim gave a few sentences of description of the problem, but there is not much detail. It's hard to tell whether this is an issue only when the engine is cold ( but fine when it reaches operating temperature), or that Mercedes really defeats the DEF addition for the entire trip every time the outside air is less than 50F. Having it off on a cold start should be considered normal and be allowed.

We have to wait for the facts: there could be no issue.

If it's off when cold why bother with a BlueDef heater ?

Absolutely stupid thread.

MB had no cheat.

Read the article and find out that it is a lawyer trying to get a payday with a BS nuisance lawsuit.

VW got caught by the government trying to deceive testing machines. MB did no sort of thing. Not even close.

LOL, from the article: Hagens Berman is the same legal firm serving as lead counsel for plaintiffs in several lawsuits regarding fatal flaws in General Motors ignition switches.

FYI - there's a discussion on this in the GLK forum: https://mbworld.org/forums/glk-class...ml#post6715860. Looks like MB turns off the EGR below 10C ambient.
