Ceramic Tint and Door Lock Pins

I had the Front windows tinted with Llumar CTX30 Ceramic film and the Windshield done with Llumar AirBlue80. I also installed Aluminum Door Lock Pins to lose those horrible monstrosities MB uses. What a difference something so simple can make.

Looks great!

Were the door locking pins a challenge to install? Did you change both front and rear?

Takes around 5 minutes to change all four. If you plan on keeping the originals, use more caution when unscrewing them. I wrap a pair of pliers in duct tape to prevent marking up my door panel. Roll down the window and start unscrewing. They come right off. New ones screw right one. Easy Peasy! Both front and rear replaced.

Excellent!

Thank you for your response! Sounds like an easy upgrade. Where did you purchase your pins?

On eBay. This was the best price and they arrived in a few days. Quality was impeccable. There are a few different versions and styles. These have the long front and rear which fits the ML.

Looks

Looks great, can you measure the diameter of the pins, I ordered for my W166 GLE which should be the same, but they turned out to be thinner than the original ones and donot look nice although the seller stated they are ok for the GLE. Thank you in advance!

This is interesting, I measured mine, and they are also 8mm in diameter, but when you place them in place of the standart ones, they stay really loose and out of place. They look so much thinner, that are moving freely in all directions, because the hole where the pin goes in is at least 2 or 3 mms wider. Turns out the GLE has different door lock pins than the ML, I'll post a thread in the GLE forum and see what will turn out. Thanks anyway!

They are definitely different OEM part #s but the AMG Lock Knob part #'s are the same. Confused!

I have a 2015 ML and have tried to unscrew the factory lock pins without success. I've used quite a bit of force; so much so that I feel like I'm going to break them off. The plastic pins themselves seem to twist under the torque. Am I doing something wrong?

They can be difficult to remove. I use a pair of pliers wrapped in duct tape or painters tape to prevent damage to the doors. I never plan on reusing the original plastic pins so I apply a decent amount of pressure. They have long threads so it can take a while to come off.

Installed lock pins today...

...very easy install...

1. Opened front windows
2. Wrapped existing plastic pin in an old wash cloth
3. Turned pin to the right...fine threads so it took a few turns to remove
4. Screwed new pin in place.

Installation of all four took less than ten minutes.

Looks great!

I got AMG door lock pins [chrome?] and they look great. They also go down flush with the bottom of the window.
