ML350 on 17" rims

I went to a reputable tire shop and want to order winter tires for my ML350 as the wife almost lost control of the car in the highway and the dashcam recorded the entire scene and that just made me tell her she is not driving the car without proper winter tires on it. She went side by side on the highway and barely missed the center divider by inches and good thing there is no vehicle beside and behind her.

So the tire shop told me 17" rims will fit and I just had a blank stare on the guy which I dealt before and "I said you sure?" I told him the brakes a quiet big and the 20" only have an 1" to spare before hitting the 20" AMG rims. He said the computer says so so I told him okay order it in but if does not fit it won't be my fault. I ordered a these rims:

http://www.1010tires.com/Wheels/DAI+...hubbores=66.60

tires are toyo observe g3-ice 245/65/17

So.....has anyone of you guys used 17" on the ML before? I think it won't fit but what do I know.

I have heard good and bad reviews on chasing rim size. Call and talk to someone at tirerack or local dealership before mounting on your ML

17" are shown as an option on tirerack for '14 ML350. So, I am assuming 17" wheels will fit.
However, there will be a significant gap in the wheel wells/arches.

Yeah tire rack also has that option but I have not seen one in person or even in a picture. I will post how it looks like when I get them mounted. I dont really care how it will look (well....just a little bit) as long as the car wont be sliding all over the place and get into an accident with the wife on-board.

Another option is to get a set of winter tires and swap the tires [at the beginning and end of the winter season] every year.

Shouldn't the rolling diameter be the same.

I expect that the tires on the 17 will have a higher side wall to them than the 20's.

Fellow Vancouverite also ..... currently also know as snow capital of Canada.

I am looking for snow tires with rims also.

Was on the Mercedes website and quotes CAD$3,855.00 for 19" OEM rims with Pirelli Scorpion Ice and Snow.

http://app.tirelocator.ca/national/m.../75/model/1485

I wanted 18" because I was looking for a higher sidewall to enable me to go over medians in cause the roads were blocked by stalled cars and buses (I have the off road package so I can raise the car by 3"). Was told that 19" is what I should go with.

I have a ML550 so maybe the brakes are bigger????

You can go 18" on the ML550. Check 1010tires.com. You will have to wait for the tires to come as most of it are out of stock. Mine will be coming tomorrow. I manage to buy a winter setup for my c300 and ML350 with spare to change for what the dealer is asking so do yourself a favor and don't buy from them unless you really want original MB rims. The replicas are great for what they are and if you curb them you won't be crying.

I went with 19" rims from Kaltire. Not OEM but they use the same lugs as OEM and Kaltire advised me that they are the best non OEM fit for the ML.

I have used Kaltire for years and I trust them.

With taxes they were 1/2 of the OEM Mercedes tires and wheels combo.

Not sure why I bought them now as "snowmegeddon" is over till the next winter.

I guarantee that Vancouver will not get any more snow now that I just purchased the snow tires.

They will do for a couple of months a year.

I am glad I went with the 19" rims. There is sufficient side wall to go over most curbs without issues.

Hi there. What Rubber did you choose? we do not stud down here, so I'm curious what you chose if that's also your condition. Looks good, by the way.

It's like that with snow. I Pay a guy to plow the driveway. I'm happy when he takes my money and hardly ever has to come push during the season such as this year. That's good value, I believe!

Not sure if 17 inch will work, people reading this note that in Canada at least the Ml 350 gas as bigger brakes than the diesel, I had the factory 19,s balanced and the wheel weights were touching the calliper (its a gas one)

I want to resurrect this thread...winter is coming and I need to prepare as I will be expecting a new addition to the family in December so there won't be any time to deal with the wheels on my ride. Also winter tires are on sale on most local stores so it is a good time to get them. Months and months ago I bought 17"s rims at a local tire store and that failed miserably as it did not fit (damn big brakes at the front). So I decided to garage the truck and just use the C300 as I have winter tires for it. Now since the wife will be on baby duty for most of the winter and she will be using the truck I do not want her to spin around like what happened last time and knowing there is a new little one on-board I don't want to risk it. Does anyone out there have 18" on a ML350 with an AMG Package (canadian ML owners please chime-in). I am trying not to go 19" as there is a huge price difference on the tires. If you can post your rim specs and tire specs and pictures (yes dig those winter rim photos) then post them that will be great!

I understand the concern about the price difference.
If I were you, I'd invest in a good set of 19" winter tires. They will last you several years if you remove them promptly at the end of season. Congratulations on the new arrival.

bumping old thread, any answers? I'm in the same boat. Canadian 2014 ML350 with amg/sport pacakge and 20" stock wheels, I want to get 18" winter rims and tires, and found in the manual it says I can go with 18" winter rims, but when calling the dealer they said 19" is the size, also every site out there only goes as low as 19" when picking my vehicle (also I've found stuff in my manual that didn't apply to my car so I'm not fully trusting the manual). The guy at the dealer said as long as it clears the brakes it should be fine.

anyone have any idea if 18" rims will work on the ML350 with amg/sport package?

I have a set of 19 Mercedes OEM with TPMS for sale for 600, they are like new. Live in ST Louis area.

I have been looking into it and it seems 19s are recommended by everyone I've spoken with.. They say 18s won't fit our larger brakes in Canada.

bummer to hear, I'm still going to test this though. I did find 2 sites (https://www.1010tires.com and https://www.canadawheels.ca) that when picking my car, and even picking the Bluetec 4Matic (265/45R20 108 H) option, it provides 18" and even 17" rims as an option. Just taking a measuring tape to the side of my front wheel, obviously eyeballing over the rim, but it looks like the width of the brake disc with the caliper is about 16" - 16.5". I highly doubt a 17" rim would fit, but maybe an 18" would.

I've got a 2017 C300 at my disposal that has 18" Mercedes rims on it, weather permitting this weekend I will try to fit the 18" rim on the ML350 front wheel, hopefully it fits and there is a few mm/cm of space to spare.

I'll report back once I've tested.

The price difference is huge between 19 and 18 tires, I was looking at the Hakkapeliitta R2 or R3 SUV tires from Kal Tire, and it's almost $100 difference between 19 and 18 inch.

I honestly would NOT recommend you consider using a C-class Sedan wheel on an ML SUV. The ML is a significantly heavier vehicle and the C300 wheel is not designed for that weight. I researched using my E-class wheels on the ML and that was quickly shot-down by reality. For me, it's not worth sacrificing safety for a couple of hundred bucks. I will find some used ML wheels in 19 inch size and accept that I have a larger vehicle. These wheels are apples and oranges and sedan wheels like the C or E class are not rated for the weight of the ML class. Not worth the risk...

Thumbs up success!

I wasn't going to use the c class rim for driving around, I simply wanted to put on the c class rim for testing because it was an 18" rim and I wanted to see if it would fit around the brake calipers on the ml with a sport/ amg package.

I managed to try it out today, although I forgot to also test it on the back wheel, my assumption though is that the back ML350 brakes and everything is smaller, it did look like they had more clearance so if it worked on the front it should be fine on the back.

I was able to successfully put an 8.5x18 rim from a c300 onto a Canadian 2014 ML350 BlueTec 4matic with a sport package that has 20" stock rims, I attempted it on the front wheel. The rim fit fine and I was able to rotate it a bit with no resistance or issues, as much as the transmission in park would let me. I took some photos to show the clearances, there isn't much room and it looks like there is more or less clearance depending on the angle of the photo, but there is room between the brake caliper and the rim. I should've shot the photo with a tape measure in there. I feel pretty confident now that an 18" rim will fit, I highly doubt a 17" would though. Also my lug nuts were too long for the c300 rim, so I'm guessing depending on the rims I get I may have to also buy a new set of lug nuts to go with them. I used the C300 lug nuts to hold the rim on. Of course, as mentioned above when shopping around for rims I will ensure to find rims with the appropriate load rating to ensure they are fit for the heavier vehicle, but looking around at a few rims on https://www.canadawheels.ca it looks like they are more than suitable for the SUV. The cheapest 18" on there for winter has a load index of 1797, while the door sticker in the ML states GAWR for the rear is 1650, and from everything I read you actually take the GAWR and divide it by 2 to get the rim load index you need, as the GAWR is for the whole axle which will be 2 wheels taking that weight. 1797 is good enough for the whole axle, let alone half of that which would be required for 1 rim. I think I've done my research right but feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. Hopefully, this helps somebody out and they won't have to go through the hassle I did to swap rims and test. Now the hunt begins for 18" rims and possibly lug nuts/lock nuts for them.

Wink Rims 18 in 2013 ml350 bluetech

worked for me. I just used my 2007 ml350 winter tyres on my 2013 ml350 bluetech. Yes it is the amg package and I am in Canada. The tires are also of bigger diameter than stock and still works. 265/60/R18.
