Was at the dealer for oil change and looks like I need brakes. Pads and rots. I had the dealer give me the part numbers of the parts. When looking them up, the rear rotors and pads it is saying for ML350 with AMG package. My ML does not have AMG package. I am finding it strange. I guess there is vented and solid rear rotors.

Below are numbers they gave me of what I need.

It is confusion and therefore I questioned the part numbers and the dealer confirmed those are correct. QAny help would be great. Looking to order the items I need so I can do the brakes.

I'm probably no help, but on my 2012 ml350 even knowing that it as plain ugly rear callipers it does say AMG, only noticed when replacing rear brakes

I have not seen any ML350s here in Canada that have solid rear disk as all of them have the AMG package. Whatever kind of rotors you have I would recommend going with Zimmerman rotors and Akebono pads then you almost get rid of the dust plus stopping power and brake feel is the same as stock setup.

Looks like mine are also vented in the rear. I thought Zimmerman rotors are prone to cracking. I was going to get oem but they are expensive. Have many here used Zimmerman rotors?

While the Akebonos produce less dust than OEM, their braking performance is NOWHERE NEAR the OEM pads, and furthermore will warp the ML350 rotors the first time you have to make a couple of rapid stops in succession (assuming that you actually manage to stop before you hit whatever is in front of you). They may be fine for 70-year-old grandmas in Florida but not much else. I wouldn't put those on an ML if someone paid me to use them.

When I get home I can check the p/n but I have a set of oem rear rotors that I bought at the dealer for my ML. I ended up trading the car before I got to install them. Still new and in the boxes if someone wants them.

Diabolis, we have to disagree... I have said pads & rotors... excellent, smooth performance and happy with the setup. While I do go to Florida every winter... I'm driving hard, too my wife's discontent, LOL! I'm an 'older' Professional Motorcycle 'factory' roadracer, not unaccustomed to Speed, and this brake setup works, with no dirty wheels to boot! I've had the same setup on a previous GLK, same comfortable, safe, feeling. Hmm, never pressed the car yet, must be lucky! What is your experience, or have you any, with this setup? Please specify your exact experience, inquiring minds would like to know.... or, are you just suggesting 'hearsay' from another?

To the OP... call another MB dealership with an 800#, give them your VIN, and they will give you the part #s fitted to your vehicle. From there, you can search for the right parts, assuming no updates from aftermarket, etc... just to verify your #s

Koenig1 - I guess our experiences differ. I haven't personally run Akebono's on my ML, but I have on my Volvo in the days when I was more concerned with style over substance, and have furthermore seen probably two dozen Porsche / Audi / VW owners come to the shop in the last couple of years alone with ceramic pads - usually Akebonos - complaining of poor braking performance and/or warped rotors. I too have been racing cars for the last 15 years and have partial ownership in said shop, and my own experience is 100% in line with that of most automotive professionals.

In short, they do not have anywhere near the bite and stopping power of the OEM or other semi-metallic pads, and they do not absorb or conduct heat which half the time results in warped rotors the first time you have to make a panic stop on a heavier vehicle like an ML or any other SUV.

As for the rotors, I've never had or seen any issues with Zimmerman. We've sold them and used them on various street and track cars without issues, and they have been the OEM supplier for a number of BMW and Porsche models for a number of years. 99% of all problems with any reputable brake rotors are a result of using the incorrect pad for the application (like ceramics if the rotor size isn't also increased) or post manufacture third-party cross-drilling.
