Rear License Plate Mounting Screws
I've seen a lot of questions on other forums about the correct size metric stainless steel screws used to mount the license plate to the rear bracket. My 2013 W166 takes M6-1.00 x 12. I recommend using lock washers with these.
Using a longer screw will damage the paint underneath the bracket. Check the clearance with a business card. If the paint is already damaged because the stealer provided the wrong screws, make sure you cover the damage with touch-up paint or some clear nail polish. Believe me, the mag chloride will find these spots and trash your tailgate before you know it.
Good luck!

Thanks for this. When I visited my dealer to pick up the plates for my '14 GL450 CPO, I asked for new screws. They had a bin on the service line, and the young fellow reached in and handed me 2 black sheet metal screws. What? He said that most of the screw holes on used cars were trashed, so they used them to basically cut new threads.....yikes!
