My suggestion is turn off AC about 5 minutes before reaching the destination; just run fan during those 5 minutes before turning off engine.

Having lived in a muggy climate for 22 years, the first culprit is running the a/c constantly in recirculation mode. Have you owned the car for its 8 year lifespan or did you just acquire it? The second culprit is a clogged or restricted drain hose. Does your car leave a puddle under it after you shut it off?

Known problem.
My ML350 has same problem.
There are other posts on here about the smell.
Also there is a class action lawsuit:

I sold my ML350 back in 2015 because of that. I am now driving a Lexus and VW and I do not have to put up with the bad smell coming from the AC in a 80K$ truck.

I've had this issue on my 2007 FJ Cruiser and my 2014 GC SRT. Shutting down the a/c in the summer and running the blower fan full blast to dry off the evaporator really goes a long way towards reducing and/or eliminating the odour issue. On my Toyota, a Toyota-brand foam cleaner helped, but the smell came back within a year (the truck is up in Montreal, so the a/c doesn't run in the winter). If I was in Florida year 'round, it would have maybe come back sooner.
