For example in the U.S the GL350 accounts for 20-30% of sale whereas in Canada is makes up 80-90% of the sales.
Something about a V6 in a S-class bothers me, I dont want the same engine they put into a $45,000 C-class in my $130,000+ S-class, I am all for fuel economy and I have had two Diesels back to back but the S-class is a different story. I can live with a smaller engine in my family hauler as the wife drives it and it would make no difference if it has 240 hp or 550hp but not in a S-class.

Some awesome S-Class photos in that article linked. Those classics are gorgeous of course but to me the W126 is the pinnacle of more relatively modern S-Classes. That car has a soul. Bruno Sacco was on point with Mercedes design back in the day.

unless there is a huge price reduction I don't think the majority of American buyers will go for it (gas is dirt cheap in the States compared to Europe or Canada), Canada is a different story we LOVE Diesels and V6 engines.

Twin turbo 335 HP twin turbo V6 coming to the S (I imagine its new entry level slotting below the V8, nobody buys the current hybrid), and the E (E550 goes away) as reported in this month's Automobile magazine. Some buyers might not opt for it, but MB is crazy to just give away an entire sales segment to Audi and BMW here that has lower cost offerings because they have a charged V6 available.

The new Porsche Panarama diesel will have 300 hp vs the 240hp MB has now and most likely will make it to North America, MB will probably follow suit in couple years.

Love the new look, it's missing a couple of key features that truely make it an S-Class: wider fenders over the front and rear wheels like the W221, and the ability to seat 3 in the back. Looks like this would be the CL or CLS interior...
Other than that I love what they did with the detail and craftsmanship in the interior. Needs aluminum sport pedals as a factory option! Can't wait to see one later this year!

you will be able to fit three in the back seat here in the usa. unless you order one of the rear seat packages that will be offered. me thinks the majority of the cars imported into the usa will be the base backseat variant long wheel base which will allow for three people - just like the current 221 chassis.

I just think it looks so disjointed. I feel like M-B have a group of 20 designers who do things they think is "cool" in a singular context, and never even talk with one another to create one distinct holistic vibe. The facelift E-Class is the worst showing of this, and the S isn't much better, IMO.
Scribbly lines everywhere, no cohesion, just a bunch of random thoughts pieced together. M-B's design team has lost all harmony thus eliminating that minimalistic, clean and precise design idiom which made the brand so famous. Audi now does clean and minimalistic, which used to be M-B's trademark, and although I'm not an Audi fan, it's working wonders for them as they gain major inroads especially into the "youth" market that M-B so clearly desperately wants, yet goes about in such a detatched manner (and in a very panderingly way with brash design traits IMO usually reserved for Asian car manufacturers).

The white car appears to be a short wheelbase. The LWB will have much more presence, although I may prefer the proportions of the short wheelbase. The SWB rear passenger door and window have a slope which evokes the Maybach 57, it is lost on the LWB.

the facelifted E-class is much better than the car that came out in 2010, the S-class 2014 MY looks great but is more of a evolution than revolution, why mess with something that did great? Audi's all look the same in 2013-2014, the $30,000 A3 looks very similar to the $200,000 S8 W12, this is not my opinion only, quick search on you-tube will tell you the same thing.
As for the W222, it certainly can grow on me, maybe a lot. I just hate the ill-matched dropping line on the side, which tries to ruin what could have been a very pure, simple and timeless design with little questions.

I drove the facelfited E-Class and can tell you firsthand that fundamentally it's not much different than the pre-facelift. It is, however, still improved and further refined, which is expected. The interior carries the same IMO somewhat crude here and there materials, however adds a higher perceived quality and a slight bit of nicer materials to richen the ambiance up. The exterior, however, IMO is the opposite, as I feel it lacks refinement compared to the pre-facelift due to how disjoined it is via carrying 2 polar opposite design languages within one car (soft new bumpers/front which contrast the comparatively upright, boxy, super angular core of the car, as well as an awkward straight line right under the main character line which goes nowhere, due to being an "about-face" modification of the Ponton fender which they obviously deemed a mistake), which now simply doesn't make sense in the profile.

Not that impressed with the outside look of the new W222 either. Look pretty weak.
Plenty of review & magazines have commented on how the CLS and SL are not as beautiful as the previous ones, so look like there's a trend here ?

I also agree that most of MB's recent exterior designs are looking awful. The CLS has grown on me, and the GL looks alright. But aside from that everything else looks terrible.

That said, I was surprised to see how "aged" the 2003-2008 front fascia looked when parked next to the new one.
The new S-Class does look better than the current one from any angle IMO. Can't wait to see the AMG
