The Sept issue of Automobile said that the diesel and hybrid are not expected back in the US. Maybe sales were way off. My dealer said both are not on the order books, maybe available fall of 2014.

They never said discontinued. Like the 4 matic is not in production just now I think they are trying to "keep it simple" for the initial launch. If they have problems with this very complicated car it could hurt the entire brand.

I read a canadian review on recent S-Class presentation in Toronto and the reporter stated that since US does not want diesel models Canada won`t be getting them neither.
Also, I talked to my local MB mechanic and he stated that bluetec models had very bad feedback hence very poor quality of diesel in US.

I don't know "not wanting" or "poor quality of diesel". Illinois dealers do not stock BlueTec because of the up to 20% biodiesel blends sold here. MB wants 5% tops. I'm asking my state reps to change the law to require they post the % just like they do with octane.
I drive a '11 E BT almost 40k on it. I did get carbon built up but, from my research, so does the direct injection gas version of the 3.2 Audi Q5. Given that all mechanical things need maintenance I'll take my +400 lb torque (don't miss the V8) and 36 MPG highway any day. Find one (V6) and do a test drive - a real eye opener.

I called MBNA yesterday telling them that I have been waiting for the W222 Diesel -- Customer Service Rep put me on "HOLD" to check -- came back and said that it is not in the horizon for the next 24 months! I was terribly disappointed. Now have to look at S550!

If not how much does it cost?
I had a similar issue with my BMW 335D but it had injector failure + carbon buildup and ECU/DDE failure.
Mine had 65,000 miles when it happened.
BMW paid most of the costs out of goodwill.
Others had the same issues and BMW fixed them under warranty if its within factory warranty.

Is the clean out of the carbon covered under warranty?
