I WAS SOOOO close to going to non runflats on my 2014 S550. I bought them and they wouldn't fit! Going to 18" from 19"s did not fit as I have the AMG sport option. Now they are for sale, all brand new. More details at for sale forum

Well I cannot figure out if I love runflats or hate them

With 9200 miles on my '16 S550 4matic I punctured one of the front tires with a long screw. MB dealer told me they cannot fix/plug the hole so I have to buy a new tire (they will not plug runflats--period). Of course they convinced me to buy a second tire since I would have one tire with 9200 miles and one new one on the front. So I ended up spending $800 for two front new tires. I hate the fact that I had to buy two new tires where on conventional tires they would have plugged the hole. On the other hand, it is nice to now that if I had punctured the tire somewhere out in the middle of nowhere I could have driven on the tire. It just so happens that this puncture happened within 1/2 mile of the dealership this morning so this was pretty much a non event except for handing the dealer 800 more dollars.

'94 SL600,'05 SL600,'06 S65,'07 E63,'14 E63S,'09SL600 all sold, ‘15 S65,‘18 E63S,'17 SL65, '17S65Cab
I recently purchased a new S65. The AMG's do not have run flat tires so MB does have approved 20" non MOE tires for at least a subset of the S class. The S65 uses 255-40-20 front 285-35-20 rear. The factory tire is a Continental 5P. Also the manual clearly states non MOE Winter Snow tires are approved for all S class. It recommends purchasing a TIREFIT kit if these tires are installed. The TIREFIT kit is standard in the S65.

BMW is the same--policy is to never repair a run-flat. But, Discount Tire repaired it no problem on my 2004 BMW 545i. If the puncture is in the tread, not the sidewall, I would have it repaired, no matter what M-B says.

That said, I will be replacing my conventional tires with run-flat on my Maybach 57. Especially since the OEM tire size is not available anymore. I will replace with Continental Runflats this Fall in the 285/45-19 size. The OEM 275/50-19 is not available, at least according to TireRack.com

Isn't it amazing? A $225,000.00 uber luxury sedan and they give you a can of goo and a tire pump! Don't you just love it?

My 2006 S65 had a real full size spare under the trunk floor, I do not consider the pump and goo an improvement. I need to see if the W221 S65 spare will work with the W222 S65 brakes. If so then I will have to find one.
In all my years of driving Mercedes and prior to that Audi's I have had two on road failures. Neither would have been fixable with the pump and goo. In both cases I was able to keep driving at reduced speed to a tire store. About 4 miles. One was on the 210 in Pasadena and one was on the 5 in San Diego. With 30 and 35 profile tires if one drives carefully they will stay on the rims and provide continued mobility.

MB should provide an option when ordering, to select "spare tire/jack", regardless of type of tires the vehicle comes with

MTrauman-Some runflats are able to be patched. The booklet for my Michelin MXM4 ZP's clearly states they can be patched in certain instances.Just did so when tech found small nail at rotation. No probs after 1k miles.

Good to know. Do you have any reservations about that hole?

Now the problem is my old TPM sensors are either dead or not compatible with W222. Will have to get this looked at.

What size tires did you end up doing for this? Looks suprisingly good.

2016 S550
I noticed the same thing. I owned an 2010 S550 and loved it. The drive and feel of the car is like no other. The only other car that comes close to driving like a mercedez is the Lexus. I drove the new LEXUS LS500 and it had RUn Flat tires and the drive was not smooth like my old Lexus.

So I decided to buy another S550. I just got a 2016 S550 and I HATE the run flat tires. The ride is so much different. Thank God I can replace with regular Michelin tires. I just have to wait until they need replacing .

Good to know I wasn't the only one who thought the drive was different.

I did a search on tirerack, but for curiosity's sake, I searched under S65, instead of a 2014 S550 which I currently drive. Surprisingly, the OEM size for this vehicle is 255/40ZR20 front and 285/35ZR20 rear. The 2014 S550 with 20" sport wheels has OEM 245 front and 275 rear...

I wonder why this is? Should I ask for this higher profile tire instead?
I just got a cpo 2016 with 20in good year runflats. I kept insisting with th dealer that these tires are a liability. right enough I have already blown a tire over a small pot hole. I would rather prefer regular tires with a spare. Did MB corporate replace the tires for you?. Also incase of 20inch wheels there is no runflat allseason tires or for that matter winter tires, so basically I cannot drive the car in winter,

2018 S560 and 2019 E450 Wagon.
I have a 2017 with the 20 inch amg line wheels and right after I got the car last fall I ditched the run flats for Uniroyal GTZ Tiger Paw tires and have been very happy. They are an all season non runflat and the car drives comfortable and have had no rim or tire problems. The tires have been around 10K miles and I'd say about 1/2 worn. I'm hard on tires thought as I accelerate and corner fairly hard. The car is just RWD so the rears seem to be wearing faster than the fronts. Thats ok though as the tires are fairly inexpensive so replacing them every 20K miles is no big deal.
