The sales rep here at MB Plano laughed at me last year since I asked for a $500 - $1000 discount off MSRP on the GL550 - he successfully lost my business for a fully loaded GL63 and now a fully loaded S550 and of course earned a negative recommendation and loss of future purchases.
He laughed at you for a mere $500 - $1000 discount? That is really strange. We managed to get a decent discount recently on a 2014 M-Class with barely any haggling. Granted, the order for the S probably helped as well. Also, MB Georgetown seems to have decent allotments. Looking at some of the orders on various threads, my S-class order was put in fairly late (June 29) and yet it's already built and on a ship right now.

kratos, you should definitely ask. Worst case is your rep will say no.

Question...I've gotten mixed advice on this.....Should I wait till my car gets here (dealer says maybe December) and haggle some off in person....or should I do some haggling with the sales rep over the internet prior to its arrival....???

I'm going to shoot for free extended warranty, but probably won't get it...
I would settle for free tint windows and a key chain...

I got to drive the 2014 S-Class yesterday. I live between two MB dealers and they both received identical demo cars (MSRP: $118,226). Very comfortable and very quiet. I like the look of the wide 12.3" Navigation screen but I did sort of miss seeing real gauges in front of me. The programmers opted to show a percentage of fuel remaining in the tank rather than displaying a simulated gauge which is a bit odd.

Driving the car was very nice. It does not feel like a large sedan and the view over the hood makes it feel more like a mid-size car. The demo had the base sound system which sounded very good. I would be hard-pressed to spend another $6K for the upgraded version after hearing this system. The demo also hand the driving assist package that will steer the vehicle up to about 30 mph. It even does some steering at highway speeds but only for a few seconds to help if you would take your eyes off of the road.

Overall, a very impressive sedan.

Can you elaborate more on "steer the vehicle up to 30mph."?

The car will keep itself in the lane with minor steering corrections or even through gentle turns. It isn't completely autonomous though, it requires driver input after a few secs and will warn you.

So after 30mph it can't do this?

Kratos:

My buddy did a demo on his site. It works at highway speeds

http://www.benzreport.com/2014-s550-...sist/#more-839

Motor trend did a video where they cheated by putting their knee up against the bottom of the steering wheel tricking the car that there was a hand on the wheel.

Distronic Plus w/Steering Assist works up to 125 mph (200 kmh). From the literature I've read thus far, the car will steer itself without warning you at up to 37 mph, which is the Stop&Go Pilot part (I've seen numbers as low as 19 mph). There needs to be other cards and/or lane markings for this to work. For speeds greater than 37 mph (or whatever the number is), the car can steer itself in a straight line or through small bends for up to 15 seconds. It warns you at the 10 second mark to put your hands on the wheels and deactivates the system at 15 seconds if you persist.
