Baltimore Port Problems
My S has been sitting at port for 10 days. Supposed to be released today. Has anyone had similar issues?

Was supposed to be delivered 2 weeks ago. They are saying port was closed due to holidays which didn't happen in prior years.

The last time my car was stuck at the port I had to hire an attorney and with him all I was able to get was a representation that my car had not been in an accident and had body work done which is all I was really concerned about.
They consider the VPC as part of the factory and thus are not obligated by law to reveal work done to your car. If it had left the port/VPC, the laws affecting disclosure would be different.

They probably corrected something and were waiting for a part. It happens all the time. They will never tell you the truth.

I had the same issue with my new F350 Platinum earlier this year. It made it to the distribution point in Delaware, and then disappeared off the tracking radar... I believed it had fallen off the ramps coming off the rail car or worse. I had the dealer contact the factory rep. to inform them I would not be taking delivery of the truck, and would buy elsewhere. The next day, confirmation of shipment to dealer was confirmed.
When the dealer opened the vehicle, there was a quality control note that 26 miles had been put on the truck for a RANDOM quality control inspection at the distribution point before shipping to dealer...
I wonder how many of these "Notices" were printed on a cheap inkjet at the home of a distribution lot employee who thought taking a rare issue truck home for the weekend would be fun (and what over vehicles they do the same to- Mustang SVO' etc...)
Good luck getting yours...I am sure it is just a holiday issue in your case!

One year they were trying so hard to meet YE numbers that my car actually got dropped off in Baltimore and was sent by rail to California so it would leave the VPC by YE.

FWIW Ship arrived at west coast port on the 17th and I wasn't able to take delivery until the 27th. I too felt like the dealers wanted to use it for Xmas. Had 33 miles on it when I took delivery.

you nailed it.....ports are a problem for all cargo types and worse in most other countries. I deal with ports regularly for all sorts of equipment in my line of work... you should try getting delivery in Brazil or any West African Country...
.... food/perishables seem to be the only exception and even that's not 100%
The dealer can raise a fuss.... usually with no improved results

Mercedes & Baltimore
The Port of Baltimore also houses the Mercedes VPC which up until several years ago was a separate location 25 miles north east of Baltimore. The VPC is and has always been the final step in the manufacturing process and nothing has changed with the W222 model. Besides the final steps for delivery to the dealer, new models particularly, may experience modifications beyond what you would normally expect in the final pre-delivery mode. Delayed release from the VPC can be for something very minor such as a revised owners manual. By the way, damage repair is done at the VPC but it is a very rare occurrence. Mercedes wants the dealer delivered vehicle to be flawless as possible. so some delays do occur.

If it's for making my car more perfect than it is, I'll understand. But just keeping it there for 4 weeks just because they're slow is unacceptable. Has Tom's car been released yet?
