Obviously the 222 may not be the same, I have not had a look but I would expect it to be very very similar, just needs W222 specific parts.

Before this referred thread I thought the retrofit task would be too big on a car that did not have the ski-bag option. It isn't any minor task but the thread proves it is nothing like impossible.
FYI All, I just completed the Retrofit, and updated the thread. On the W222, the Fridge harness is on the right side like it was on the W220s. So one probably can use either a W221 or a W222 Fridge, but if you use the W222 Fridge on the W221, you will need to run the wire over to the opposite side (left). I don't know if the W221 Fridge fits a W221, but it kinda looks like it.

Hey, I have a question for the W222 owners, where does your manual discuss care and maintenance of the Fridge? I am looking for the specifications on clearances around the Fridge. It has 3 vents and there has to be a minimum specification for clearance from solid objects. I am assuming it is 5 inshes or so, but I want to be sure. I also want to know what is the manufacturer's recommended care of the unit.

Regards and Thanks!

I asked this question and was told there are no minimum clearance requirements around the refrigerator. They said I could put luggage right next to it. Didn't sound right to me but that is what I was told.

Great looking car, the designo exterior makes that new front-end look good.

I plan to keep everything at least 5 inches away from those vents or run temporary piping when I have to load up the trunk. What they said does not make sense to me either. At a minimum it will hurt the Fridge's cooling performance, extending its time to cool time, and not getting as cold as it can, are the probably results.

Has anyone here got a refrigerator along with Burmester 3D? If so, could I please see pictures of it? I'll have a chat with my local parts department regarding this, but it may cost too much to be of value.

Please see Diesel Benz's earlier post, there is a link that leads to pictures of the actual unit for a W221, there are pics of the W221 version on the web. Just perform a search for a W222 Refrigerator of Fridge.

I'm afraid that those pictures don't really suffice for me. I've just retrofitted Burmester, along with 3D parts including the subwoofer, as well as the updated touchpad, the permanent internet/SAP as seen here http://www.mercedes-benz-accessories...43_08-2014.jpg, as well as a few wires running around the boot, especially for the Burmester 3D which may suffer due to this refrigerator, which is why I was looking for specific pictures involving Burmester 3D.

Oh OK. I have a question how do you think the Fridge will interfere with the wiring/harnesses for the sound system? I think that depending on the rear seat configuration, you could pull the rear seat and view the area where the Fridge is installed and see how the harness is run? It should not interfere with the wiring runs of the sound system, but I do not have a W222.

Its because I've retrofitted Burmester with parts of 3d, and for the subwoofer, I've used a Rockford Fosgate amplifier due to problems with the 3D subwoofers amplifier. I installed a twoddle which runs through the back so that it is in the centre console. I'll get my son to upload a video later. I need that twoddle as for some songs the bass is too high, and for some songs it is too low.

The Fridge power harness, runs from the Fuse holder above the Rear SAM in the W221 to the Panel that separates the trunk from the electrical equipment that resides between the Rear backrest and the trunk. This harness is about 6 feet long but I only needed about 2 feet to run it to the panel where the Fridge socket resides. If the Rear SAM is located in the same spot (see pics on the other thread), and the slot is still 139 (See pics on other thread), then the harness run is about 1 foot, as the W222 socket is located on the right side of the panel, instead of the left side as it is in my 2012 W221. Since you will probably run the wire in between the Fuse holder and the Rear SAM, you should not have a conflict between your audio system's wiring and the harness that you cannot solve.

What I've done, is I've tried hiding the wires which run from the 3D Subwoofer, along with its amplifier and made it go "through" the seats. I'm getting my car back today from the audio shop, so I'll have a look. It costs too much to be of much value, as I haven't got the package which has the different rear middle seat. It would be cheaper just buying a 12V fridge and wiring it in the boot.

No it was not, the W221 seems to made to add some of the features pretty easily. I found it to be much easier than the retrofitting the factory nav in my former 2008 C300, but I got that done.

here is the link to how I did it and shows the parts I used. https://mbworld.org/forums/s-class-w...ferrerid=60539

Easy also depends on how familiar you are with the cars and how well you can understand schematics in some cases. The information that can be attained is normally pretty straight forward. In this case, reviewing your SAM's fuse layout is critical so you know where to plug in the fuse carrier and the correct fuse, you also need to find out what parts are required for your specific car. I had to review the options installed on my car, and then determine the parts needed. I goofed on a few parts that I ended up not needing. They were not expensive so I did okay. I should have done a little more research on the parts LOL!
Depending on what rear seat option is installed in your car makes a difference in the parts required for the upgrade to the Ski bag option. Once you have the Ski bag option installed, all you need is the Fridge, the fuse, the fuse carrier w\harness. The fridge comes with the mounting bolts, the fuse carrier comes with the fuse and the harness.

Dunno, I never put a thermometer in there and measured it. I keep planning to do that but I keep forgetting. Next long trip, I will get one asnd insert it into the Fridge.

Some questions on operation...
1. Does it have an On/Off Switch or will it turn On/Off when you turn the car on.
2. Will it stay running for a while if you turn the car off, or can you keep it running. I assume it draws very little power.
3. How long does it typically to get cold enough to cool items.
4. Does the temp vary, usually it will depend greatly on surrounding temps. Typically a Peltier based cooling system will attain a 25 degree differential from surrounding air temp. So if its 85 in the trunk, the coolest it will get is 60...

There is a persistent On/Off switch.

2. Will it stay running for a while if you turn the car off, or can you keep it running. I assume it draws very little power.

On with car, off with car. It runs on 120V AC.

3. How long does it typically to get cold enough to cool items.

I don't know, I typicaly put cool things in it and have it keep them that way.

4. Does the temp vary, usually it will depend greatly on surrounding temps. Typically a Peltier based cooling system will attain a 25 degree differential from surrounding air temp. So if its 85 in the trunk, the coolest it will get is 60...

It has no trouble keeping beer and champagne cold in Texas summer heat. (well above 100ºF)

W222 S Class with Panoramic roof, Distronic plus, Fridge, Towbar and TV!
Just to resurrect this thread, I have just bought a 2016 S Class W222 and am in the process of retro-fitting the fride into the load compartment. I do not have the ski bag option so need to buy the tunnel liner and rear trim piece for the trunk along with the door and wiring loom. I have also retro-fitted an aftermarket carplay system that looks pretty much stock...

Some have asked if the W221 fridge can be used, I would say not as the "neck" part of the fridge, the part that passes through the rear seats, is a lot shorter on the W221 unit. The W222 one is longer to allow for cars that have the reclining rear seats as these sit further back in the trunk.

I have the fridge in my W221 which is now sat outside after being accident damaged in early June... None of the parts appear to be interchangeable

I can post more photos if people would like? I am also retrofitting the electric towbar option (trailer hitch) which does use a couple of parts from the W221. (I have that option on my 221 and have removed parts that I can reuse)

This is the view in the trunk behind the seats. I have already fitted the support frame for the fridge ready for the rest of the parts to arrive this week to my MB dealer here in the UK

1st picture is the aftermarket carplay, 2nd picture is the view in the trunk of the fridge bracket (waiting for other parts) 3rd picture is the W221 fridge, 4th is the W222 fridge

When i was researching parts, there were two versions of the part that makes the tunnel through the rear seat, one was for the non reclining seats and he other was or the massaging/adjustable rear seat. I actually both both and still have the wrong on for my car around in the event that purchase the adjustable/massaging rear seat. I don't know if the W221 Fridge will fit in the W222, but some owners in the UK and Germany stated they have retrofitted the W222 fridge in their W221s - but I did not see how they did it.

I don't see how they did it either, the neck of the W222 fridge is much longer, as you say, to allow for the rear reclining seats (You can see the mounting bolts in the floor for these in one of the above photos)

The mounting frame is in a fixed position to allow for both rear seat types and the rear wall covers both options...

Should be a fun job this week
