Unlike BMW, MB has not means to permanently leave ECO off by default.
I know there is a company in Germany that does it cheaply but the car needs to be dropped off. I sure it's a quick software flash.

I disabled it on my '12 BMW by downloading the esys software, it was a pain to do but worth it ... you can change a ton of stuff, add / remove display screens, etc. So far, I haven't seen this the MB Software or people that are willing to make the changes. Your best bet would be to check with an independent.

Re. The MB ECO, I don't think there is any shop in the US able to do it.

Not sure exact what car you got, but if it's a MB then having this setting would be awesome!

i am not here to inflame anyone - just to give a balanced perspective. that said, is it really that hard or bothersome to push a button to disable the eco when you start up the car? you pushed the start/stop button for the keyless go to fire up the engine - so pushing buttons cannot be the problem. what's one more button to disable eco? remember you escaped paying gas guzzler tax when you bought the car primarily due to the benefits that the eco system afforded you. you don't have to use it, but i don't understand all this hating on having to manually override the system by pushing a simple button. have we really all gotten that lazy? do you have an issue with using the buttons for raising and lowering windows or activating the seat massager? just sayin' - balanced perspective. cheers.

It's one more step that doesn't need to be taken! Default settings are there for a reason .... preset seats, preset stations, presets for everything .... except eco!

Yup,I was alone and just suffered some scratches on my arm from the airbag.Rear ended a car at about 7mph.His rear bumper had about $50 worth of damage.Go figure!
Nope,I'm back with BMW because 1) I want diesel...2) the insurance settlement only allowed me a 3 Series, not a replacement for my Bluetec.BMW allows "default to last setting",it looks like MB doesn't.

No,it's not "hard" and there are certainly more "bothersome" things in this world than this. But it *is* annoying and if BMW can feature a "default to last setting" system why can't MB?

This has been discussed so many times. It is not about what MB can do or cannot do but about the approved emissions levels. The owner of the car either pays more or needs to push the Eco button to turn it off, as simple as that. MB just took the more ecological choice.

If that is the case, then indeed it could have been coded differently under country specific settings. I thought it was the same for the US when someone previously claimed so here.

BMW was the same but yielded to its customers. Glad they did...
MB has done the same with the Sport setting. The cars used to remember the last setting. Now you have to select Sport (or Sport +) even on AMG's every time you get in the car. Nothing technical or legal, just MB's decision to make it so.

There is quite a bit of misinformation here re. ECO. Nothing legal about this. This is simply a corporate decision.

For us also the transmission mode now needs to default to some eco mode while it previously kept the setting from previous ride.
There are topics that are not related to emissions at all, like the default display of the cluster computer. Earlier on the cars maintained the selection even if ignition was turned off and on, then they started to use a default mode and I believe it was switched again for most new models. Obviously here it is not ruled by any eco requirements or MB's capability to program features. They've just had different views about he best approach, just like we have here at the forum. Some thought it is better if the car settings are the same when you start driving, irrespectively of some odd preferences the previous driver might have had. Some feel that it is best to remember the settings because most often it is the same driver as on the previous ride.

Yes, the suspension setting is remembered, I meant the transmission. It used to be remembered, not anymore...

Could be so in the US. For us it is definitely affecting the CO2 figures according to the European measurement rules. CO2 again affects different car taxes depending on the country (initial fixed tax or yearly fees). If it was not on by default, the car would get CO2 ratings measured at the off mode.

It does, however, seem that person-specific customizations have gone by the way side. Seem like BMW still does more that way, including the key personalization.
I for one wouldn't mind for the car to remember & recall my personal music/climate/seats/mirrors/engine-transmission/suspension/magic roof/BT phone settings when i get in the car.
Luckily my wife and I have similar settings & taste in music, but many don't...

I have pretty good luck modulating when my V12 engine runs or not, simply by how much pressure I have on the brake while the car is stopped. a nice light touch on the brakes, and the engine will not stop, a little harder and it will stop.
So, its all in your ability to control your braking foot.
