The last photo is obviously the one with my wheels. Hopefully, I will get a comfortable ride along with a bit better gas mileage.

I agree that the available options leave room for improvement.

I like the design of the 20", would like to see that spoke design in a 18" or 19" wheel size.

Let us know if you change wheels or tires and how it works out for you.

I actually like the 19' Sport package design ( like the old AMGs ), the 20' is pain to clean.

If I order my S, it would be the 19's.

Ohh, to everyone talking about the RFTs. I have had RFT since my 2009 750LI, and I HATE Run flat tires!!! I was so jealous about W221 S class owners because they have regular tires and a spare!

Anyway, I switched my RFT with Michelin Pilot sport, and the difference is night and day! So smooth and quiet. The day I changed my tires I was driving around just to feel and enjoy the difference the tires made.

Only con on swapping the tires is you will not have a spare, and a tire slime kit will not save you if you have a flat. But I have another vehicles for long distance trips, so I take a chance and never look back.

So anyone who complaint about the RFTs, changing to regular tires will put a huge smile on your face.

Michelins Pilot Sport and Conti DWS are good choices and dirt cheap too. A set of 20s will only run you 1300-1400. Vesus 2300+ for RFT replacements.

No Michelin's on Tirerack.com for the 20" Wheels yet. Are you saying that driving on junky rides will feel night and day on Michelin Pilot Sports vs our current RunFlats?

I would obviously prefer THAT particular option than going and getting Mercedes to open a case and try to size down the entire wheel/tire set up.

I don't like any of the other factory options. My thoughts are to stay with the 20" stockers and get out of the run flats. It may not be as smooth as the guys on 18's, but it has to be at least 10-15% better, and I'll take that! I have an email from my dealer with him saying that he'll honor the tire switch on my warranty, and you better believe I got that printed out and laminated in a frame.......LOL.

You won't regret it. I probably would recommend the Potenza all seasons. I switched out SL to SL65 forged AMG wheels (19" front, 20" rears) with Michelin Super Sports and used the stock 19" AMG rims for snows.
Not only is this a world of difference, but the snows ride smoother than the run flats!

Just switched out our BMW Goodyear LM-2 run flats out with Continental Extreme DWS and couldn't be happier. Feels actually like a proper ride now

To the op referring to long distance driving without run flats. Even without a spare and just the tire kit you may be better off than with run flats. If you have a blow out, the run flat must be replaced either way, you just don't have to do it on the side of the road. The big surprise will be to find out that virtually no tire shop has these on hand. So how good is it to make it to the shop just to find out that you have to wait 2 days for your tire to arrive?

Yea the discussion on rft and non rf has been going on for a long time.

But trust me, the junky ride is from the tire. A 22' with non run flat rides

Better than 20' with rft.

Are you buying the tires or will MB swap them for you?

I am debating waiting till all 4 tires have bubbles again (2 do already) and then telling them instead of putting on run flats, please put on conventional.

That way I don't pay for the switch and I also get to keep warranty.

I went with your 2nd picture on mine. I thought the 19" overall looked the best and it wasnt worth the extra money for the sport package.

We think alike. If I were to switch to 19 from my 20s, I would go to that style too and stick some good michelin All seasons on it. Would probably be one heck of a smooth ride.

try 35 series tire instead of 40 and you'll find it. Michellin pilot supersport. the best tires out there.

That's a smart move. I'm sure they'll do it simply because you're becoming a money loss hazard to them if they don't.

I have very little knowledge of what tire to pick for these stock 20's that will be the best as far as comfort is concerned. So I'm definitely gonna need a lot of input from people. So far I've heard of the Michelin Supersports 35 series. Anything better in comfort?

I live in the South (we don't have winters), so all season tires are not necessary.

So I would have to have this setup? Having 35 instead of 40 (even though Mercedes Standard for this is 40) is not a problem?

I had Michelin Pilot Sports on my last S550 and they were great. Very comfortable. Took a real road imperfection to get me to feel jarred.

It almost feels like this car is riding on solid metal tires instead of rubber! Is that how you feel?

Ohh I did change the front to 255/35/20 instead of 245/40/20. The 245/40 takes two weeks to order.

So for comfort and all weather drivability. Get Conti DWS, one of best all around tires for German cars.

There really is nothing better. It is a high performance wet or dry , longest tread-wear (30k miles) Went 32k on my old w221, grips deep in rain, even more so when its hot, Can be patched multiple times (as long as it is not sidewall), extremely quiet.

That's how I feel too.

I feel every single road imperfection. When theres a pot hole or a speed bump - even with Magic Body Control switched on (by leaving it in comfort mode) - the entire car is just like a roller coaster on a wooden track.
