Actually, this company has like 11 stages of armoring. The final stage can combat that caliber. I was very surprised.

Yes, A12 is supposed to be able to stop a .50. That, of course, would vary by how many shots were fired. Sure, it may stop one, maybe two rounds (their website only lists 1). I'm not sure it would stop more than that. And of course, the type of round being fired has an impact as well (I'm sure they use standard .50 rounds, not depleted uranium rounds)...

Of course, it isn't mean to stop an all-out assault, but protect its occupants from that one shot so they can continue on to safety...

There are no depleted uranium rounds in .50 cal. 25mm is the smallest DU caliber. There's a .50 SLAP/SLAP-T round that looks sort of like the DU sabot rounds for tanks but the projectile is tungsten, not DU. Thinking an API or SLAP/SLAP T round would require quite the armor package.

"8. Several American snipers had reported they used depleted uranium rounds during the Gulf War. During a September 28, 1998 meeting of the U.S. Presidential Special Oversight Board, Jeff Prather from the Office of the Special Assistant on Gulf War Illnesses confirmed the use of 7.62mm depleted uranium rounds during the war, but stated he had seen no information confirming the use of .50 caliber depleted uranium rounds. In July, 1998, the U.S. Department of Defense confirmed: "[U.S.] Army Special Forces also use small caliber DU ammunition on a limited basis;" Office of the Special Assistant for Gulf War Illnesses; "Environmental Exposure Report: Depleted Uranium in the Gulf;" July 31, 1998; p. 63."

So I was correct, your initial assertion that there were .50 cal DU rounds was wrong. From '78-'05 I was in the position to use and/or procure ammo for the entire Marine Corps and NEVER once heard of or saw a DU .50 cal or 7.62 round. That's probably because it makes ZERO sense to use DU in a round with those ballistic attributes. That said, maybe it was tried and shown to be a stupid idea - right up there with nuke hand grenades.

Now back a great car discussion.

Who cares if it was a stupid idea... It was definitely tried... Major IHavetobreright because I was an ammo procurer for the ENTIRE Marine Corps.... So, change DU to saboted tungsten round then..
