Following the introduction of the S-Class Coupe last month, Mercedes-Benz has unveiled the more potent S 63 AMG Coupe version.
Like most recent AMG models, the S63 AMG Coupe adopts a rather tamed and restrained exterior appearance with a slightly more aggressive body equipped with larger vents, muscular side skirts and a quad exhaust with chromed tailpipes flanking the glossy black diffuser. It rides on 19-inch titanium grey multi-spoke AMG forged light alloy wheels wrapped around in 255/45 R19 and 285/40 R19 tires.
Its heart and soul is a twin-turbo V8 5.5-liter engine delivering 577 bhp (430 kW) and 900 Nm (664 lb-ft) of torque which makes it 41 bhp (30 kW) and 100 Nm (74 lb-ft) more powerful than the outgoing CL 63 AMG. Besides the added muscles, the S63 AMG Coupe is also 65 kg (143 lbs) lighter compared to its predecessor and offers a power-to-weight ratio of 3.41 kg / bhp.
The rear-wheel drive model needs 4.3 seconds to get from 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) and has an electronically-limited top speed of 155 mph (250 km/h). Opt for the 4MATIC variant and the sprint time decreases to 3.9 seconds but we should mention Mercedes-Benz plans on offering this version only with a left-hand drive configuration. As usual, the engine is coupled to a seven-speed sports gearbox with three modes: "C" (Controlled Efficiency), "S" (Sport) and "M" (Manual).
Besides the usual AIRMATIC air suspension and MAGIC BODY CONTROL, the Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG Coupe can also feature a curve tilting function which debuted on the regular S-Class Coupe enabling the vehicle to "lean into bends in a manner similar to a motorcyclist or skier." It can be turned on between 19 mph (30 km/h) and 119 mph (180 km/h) and it's capable of diminishing the lateral accelerations felt by the passengers by inclining the body up to 2.5 degrees.
For more money the S63 AMG Coupe can be configured with ceramic composite brakes as well as 20-inch ten-spoke AMG Performance Studio wheels, while on the inside there are AMG sport seats, Nappa leather upholstery and a flat-bottomed three-spoke steering wheel.
Like most recent AMG models, there will be an "Edition 1" version available only one year after the car's launch. It will come with Swarovski crystals in the LED headlights, AMG sport seats wrapped in Exclusive Nappa leather, bespoke floor mats, illuminated AMG lettering on the door sill panels, Night View Assist Plus, a high-gloss black wood trim and other goodies.
The 2014 Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG Coupe will make its public debut next month at the New York Auto Show. Order books for the 4MATIC version will open in April, followed by the RWD model in July. Deliveries are slated to commence in September.

But not sure why anyone sane in CA would want a $175K+ AMG w/a jerky/lemony well-known POS MCT box, a 150lb vibration-prone Airmatic AWD, no ABC/MBC, and a plastic 63 interior
$250K S65 Coupe w/CCB, cf, etc seems a hell of a lot better value esp in mkts like SF/BH where most of these cars are cheap daily commuters and one doesn't deal w/3rd World issues like winter tires, etc etc and "need" for costly POS SUVs....
Given a crappy 991TTS costs $225K, seems to me 65 is awfully cheap for CA commuter duty....and am rather underwhelmed by dynamics of 991TTS in mtn twisties vs any 65, let alone stability on a fast, hilly CA fwy....or dubious jerkiness/reliability of any PDK box (much like any MCT/DCT)...let alone PriusTurbo exhaust note of the VW, so pathetic at any speed
Real question is driving precision of S65 Coupe vs latest SL65 in mtn twisties....600lbs less, lower COG, shorter wheelbase are awfully difficult to offset.....and both buyer sets in places like SF/BH often use either 65 as daily commuters&wkend twisties missles and have zero need/desire for backseat or sunroof/convert.....

S63 makes sense in Snow Belt but in LA/SF areas S65 is a much better choice indeed.
SL65 even better......

Plastic interior? Everything is either leather or CF. Or metal. There's more leather in these than an old 600. I'm interested to see what the S65 prices come in at...I have a feeling the 65s might actually weigh less than the 63s too because the heavier engine will be offset by the lack of the heavy 4Matic system. I still think for the money this is a very good car.

Unfortunately, not quite on par. While I find the design superior, the execution is not equal. I was considering trading my 13 SL65 in for an S63 to get the upgraded interior, AWD, and sound system, but the new 63 uses plastic on the lower door panels and center consoles sides even when you get the highest leather package. These plastic elements really stand out in a bad way after you've gotten used to a full leather interior.

My point was that I find the new 63 equal to the last generation 65 interior-wise. Comparing the current SL65 to the current S63 misses the point somewhat.

Haven't yet have the luck to see the current 600/65 models but stated that they will be certainly superior to the 63.
My point was that I find the new 63 equal to the last generation 65 interior-wise. Comparing the current SL65 to the current S63 misses the point somewhat.
