222 S550 coupe
Saw this in the flesh at a high end car show in CT over the weekend.
This car looks...AWFUL. Inside, outside, everything. It is horrific. Words can almost not express how bad it looked.
I would take a 215 CL over this car any day of the week.

Hate the interior and exterior? This car is more or less a carbon copy of the S-Class sedan. Do you dislike the sedan just as much?
Funny how tastes change over time. I used to love the looks of our 215 CL500 I now find the cars look extremely dated, especially the front end. The SL is aging more gracefully.
Still like the interior though...

Pretty broad statement.

The front end of the coupe is an amalgamation of the new corporate front end of the SL and part CLS. The rear is a plain slab with two lights that could be off anything from a kia to a bmw.
Side profile is hard to judge with the door being open, but the proportions seemed off somehow.
The interior wasn't hugely different but appears very busy and inelegant. Same massive screens (which I've never liked) but the center console and door panels are different in a not good way. The seats also look like some alien spaceship seat from an 80s movie.
Not one person in my group of 6 higher end car owners (mostly mb, pcar and bmw) liked it.
In general, btw, I like the sedan although I would have done parts of the interior differently.

The pic you posted is the non-sport package (Sport+1 is a must IMO) and appears to be raised. Any MB in raised position looks like crap... Planning to get coupe again; interesting to see how the new GT AMG turns out. Word is that it's supposed to be the best looking MB.

I looked at the pics again and combined with my limited seat time in the new S and how that interior looks/feels I am sure that I will love the interior.
On the exterior, this car needs the sport package as much as the old W221 sedan. That is not the case with the W222 sedan. Both look great. Can't wait to see the coupe in the flesh.
This whole discussion comes down to taste and there are a lot of these types of topics covering a lot of different MB models.
IMO, there is a large "old-school crowd" here on MBWorld that loves anything old MB (like the W126 & W140, maybe the W220, etc.). They like the straight design on the outside/inside and some of the usual pros/cons/myths related to build-quality.
From their perspective, new MB's simply don't look good because the company has evolved their design language and won't go back. Don't expect any retro designs a la Mustang from MB anytime soon.

IMO it looks pretty terrible and identity-confused in pictures, but I think most new M-B's look awful and it's only the newest iteration (and pronounces all the new gimmicks that I find so unbecoming from new M-B's). The proportions aren't even right, seemingly no more evolved than the last generation, which is the exact same literal issue with the W222.

Speaking of ignore...we have a gentlemen's agreement that for the chap that is generally ignored on most people's IGNORE list, we don't quote him. That way the folks that ignore him do not need the indirect reading of the posts. If you all don't mind... Thanks!
