Congrats, I'm in the waiting line as well.

My dealer had a 2014 S550 in Anthracite Blue Metallic in the service bay a week or two ago. I had a look at it - a very striking color indeed.

I never enjoyed waiting for anything - luckily, I am just entering my busy season, and hope that being busy will make the time seem to pass faster.

That Anthracite Blue Metallic exterior, Porcelain/Black Exclusive Nappa interior seems to be catching on I have that combination with the the Burl Walnut but Kratos posted some pictures of the ash. Look back several months if you want to see what that looks like.

You may have already read through the posts but there is a long series I posted about my EDP process from pickup to delivery. Where are you dropping off? Did you use Herbert or your local dealer?

Tom,

I have been reading your posts for the past several months, and it is because of your posts that I felt comfortable going ahead with European delivery.

I used neither my local dealer nor Herb. While I did contact Herb, the dealer I used (the same dealer I bought my current S350 from) is about 200 miles distant, and offered me a substantially greater discount than either Herb or my current dealer did AND they will handle the collection of NY Sales Tax and NY registration, even though they are out of state.

I truly wanted to go with the Silk Pearl Beige/Titanium semi aniline interior, even though with the required rear options (which, most of which I currently have, but have not used even once) it would have increased the MSRP by $13,300, but NB was unable to schedule delivery in the time frame I need. That having been said, I have always truly loved the Porcelain/Black interior, and the Metallized Ash is different - and I like being different.

I think the 18's look better in person than they do on paper. W222's are popping up everywhere around here, and a lot of them seem to have the 18's. It's classy and understated.

*** WARNING - Grossly Subjective Comments below... ****

I saw three S550s in Sarasota this past weekend. All on St. Armand's Circle (mine made 4). It was more than I had every seen in one area within the span of an hour. In any case, for what it is worth, one that was right outside the restaurant I initially dismissed as an E350 because of the smaller wheels. Obviously the car is the same size, but it did not seem as substantial (see warning above...). After I looked again, I realized it was indeed an S550. It was actually the spoke wheels like the white one above. I know this is subjective but from a purely first impression part, the 20s do add more to that first impression of the car. Obviously, I am biased in anything I say about 20s though.

Heading to Orlando Saturday so we will see how many S550/S63's I see on that trip...

Roads in NY are horrible and only getting worse. This winter I went though 9 tires and 4 wheels on my w221 S350 with 18" rims - luckily I have the tire plus warranty, so it did not cost me anything. I cannot imagine how bad it would have been with 19s or 20s! So, for me, 18s and OEM supplied wheels with tire plus warranty are a necessity. In real life, the standard 18s do look a lot better than they do in the pictures.

Tom,

I appreciate your warning about subjectivity.

Interesting about your comparison of the 19" AMG wheels vs. the 20" AMG wheels.

I prefer the 19" AMG wheels but really do not like the standard 18" wheels. The 19" are really substantial when you get close to them (the rear wheels in particular since they have wider tires than the front tires). Personally I think the 19s are sportier than the 20s--CLEARLY VERY SUBJECTIVE.

Guess I am glad MB provides some choice since we might have different preferences.

So Marine tracker shows that WWL vessel FREEDOM has moored at Port Baltimore today at 4:13 PM. Is there any way of tracking the status of my S550 as it gets offloaded and goes through CUSTOMS and VPC? Any help would be appreciated.

Your sales rep can track it and send you the updated vii screenshot. Netstar will show each step as it moves through the VPC.

If your car was Euro Delivery you may receive your car about one week after any other cars that were not Euro Delivery that had been on the same boat.

My '14 S550 4matic was Euro Delivery and was received by the dealer about one week after the dealer received cars on the same boat that were not Euro Delivery.

mine was bought at germantown and supposed to ship direct to phoenix az for me. they screwed up and now it is coming to md. i am going over to get it for a couple of days then return to germantown where they are shipping to az on enclosed shipper and mbusa and they are picking up the tab. worked out that i can use it here for a couple of days before going to az for the winter. maybe our paths will cross. dealt with jon charles.
car is pladium with beige interior.
