2015 S63 vs 2015 Panamera Turbo? Help!

I'm on the fence and not sure which car I should get, can you guys help me decide? I love the S63 but am concerned that it won't be as fun to drive. I am driven about 35% of the time so the S63 would be perfect for that, just don't know about the size and image of the S63 compared to the Panamera Turbo... it's more mature and not as sporty not sure if that's good for me as a 30 year old. I don't love the look of the Panamera but my friend's Turbo drives so great. I really want the S63 though

Let me know!

The Panamera is a well built car with good performance, but it's styling is somewhat controversial and in need of a refresh. Porsche fans like the car and consider its design unique. The S63 design is more conventional, but the build materials are second to none and the performance is equally impressive. The interior is awesome. In the end, it is a matter of taste. Test drive both cars and I'm sure you will pick the car that best suits your needs.

I love Porsche and had 3 911's in the past 4 years. Amazing cars, no two ways about it. HOWEVER, if I'm going 4 doors, the AMG wins all day everyday in my book. The Panamera is just hideous looking to me--old stale design they need to revamp desperately! Porsche has a great interior, but the electronics, nav, user interface are from the 90's. Again MB blows it away.

So to answer the question, if you want a two door sports car get a 911, 4 door get the fun of the AMG plus the luxury of the MB, inside and out

Thanks super appreciate the advice! I'm leaning towards the S63, I just drove it, just such a different car completely even though they are both four doors. The S63 actually put more of a smile on my face I think since you don't expect the power and aggressiveness, it's a refined aggressiveness. Porsche is more raw, so hard to pick!

You hit the nail on the head with the raw comment. HOWEVER, I think the Porsche design is old and no one turns their head for the Panamera anymore (not saying you buy the car for that). It's a fun drive especially Turbo. BUT, listen to what you wrote--"S63 puts more of a smile on my face"...that's what you get everyday, and the interior is literally to die for. Albeit tough choice, I look forward to pics of your new S63--it's a Beauty AND a Beast

Have you actually driven the Panamera? I think it drives like crap! Looks like it too!

Have you considered the S63 Coupe? You say you are driven 35% of the time... That's not all that bad to be getting in and out of the back seat...

I was 30 when I purchased my E55... Everyone wondered why I bought an E Class Mercedes at 30... Then I took them for a ride... They no longer talk shlt....

Especially if you are being driven at times, I'd go for the S63 with the rear seat package

And for what its worth the stately look of the S63 will age more gracefully and look more dignified where appearance matters.

Or you can sell your Range Rover and get the S63 AND the Turbo... haha

To me, the turbo is sportier in terms of handling. However that being said, most individuals will not use a road car to those kind of limits, and as such the S63 should suffice in performance. As to the aesthetics, seems to me most people do not like the turbo, however, beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

That being said, if you will be chauffered, I will say the S63 will be much more comfortable. It will most likely be the best of both worlds.

Feedback is ridiculously helpful. Leaning way towards the S63 just keep going back to the fact that the S is a bigger car and that it obviously won't handle like the Porsche. Anyone that has a 550 or 63 ever feel like they don't want to take their car out of the garage? I have always had a smaller car in addition to an S class or truck, so a Bentley GT, an Aston, and don't want to feel like I'm lugging the big car out. Anyone think it's dumb to have a Range and an S63 as your two cars?

I don't think so... you can always trade in your Range Rover later on if you wish

My friends all drive Porsches,
I must make amends,
Oh Lord won't you buy me,
a Mercedes Benz!

Just went through this decision. Ordered a Panamera Turbo. Don't forget there's the Executive version if you still want to be driven. It was a tough decision but I just needed an "everything" car, and the PTT was it.

I can understand you not liking the looks, but drives like crap? HAHA! You've got to be out of your mind. Nothing is more athletic in that class.

I agree the PTT drives very sporty, but it seriously looks like crap. It's far from the 'everything' car. I'd much rather have a S550 and a 991 4S

The Panamera is not a looker and the rear seat is cramped, its just too small. You are better off with an RS7.

Looks are definitely a an acquired taste. How's it far from an everything car? It's devastatingly fast, can outhandle many sports cars, and can still be dialed in for a luxurious ride when needed. It has tons of options and customization available as well.

And by "everything" car I meant a DD that can handle any situation. It's a jack of all trades...but we all know that means master of none. For my DD, that was what I was looking for.

There's a long wheel base model now. I think it makes it look uglier though. And I'd get a CLS63 before an RS7, the RS7 has a very choppy ride.

I have not driven either of your choices so I can not address the attributes of these cars from personal experience. I have always been a truck/suv kind of person although I am now at the point in life where a nice sedan makes more sense and I am considering the S or E class. But let us analyze your concerns. You said, "....I'm concerned it (S63) won't be as much fun to drive...." Of course it won't, at least from everything I've read about these two cars. If the "fun" driving experience is your main criteria you have your answer.

You also said, ..."it's more mature and not as sporty not sure if that's good for me as a 30 year old." Well, there you go. A 30 year old in S class? Sacrilege! You have not lived long enough for that and from your comment it is clear that you know it. You will look funny in it just like I would look funny in the McLaren P1. Get the Porsche (any Porsche) drive the hell out of it, get it out of your system then come back here in about 10 years.

Well, you are spot on the 'sports car' aspects. The interior of the Porsche cannot hold a candle to the S63 or S550. MB is on a different playing field interior wise (electronics are superior, 2 12" displays, massage seats...hell I could go on for an hour on the differences--I think you get that). The Porsche radio/nav system is out of the 90's--very hard to use, not intuitive at all, and quite frankly sucks (and that comes from having owned a 2012 & 2013 911s, and 2013 4S). Great sports cars, not a DD for me. However, since you are young, grab the Porsche and enjoy it. I'm 45 and P cars I"m done with. The S63 (or S550) is just a beast...more like a beauty and the beast--and the PERFECT DD in my book.

PS - Last time I'll say it (and I do love Porsche), but that Panamera is HIDEOUS looking--old body style that was out dated and ugly when it first came out...ok, just had to get that out again.

out of the two boats you mention: I'd go AMG........even though it probably won't handle like a Pcar......the Panny is just HORRIBLE to look at, rear visability sux, the cockpit is terrible and to get a high performance model you'll need to commit to a price of over 200K I think.......
Porsche should just stick to coupes IMHO

I had a 2013 Panamera Turbo, just got bored with it but the new model at least has a bit of upgrades. Also I have a full time driver so that's why maybe the S63 makes sense. Still not sure which one to go with!

You can always use your Range Rover as your beater

There might be times where you can use the extra capacity as well as the ground clearance. How else would you take your dressage horse with you in a trailer?

I currently own four cars, two are Porsches, I love the brand. The Panamera is the German Aztek. Not a tough choice.

I really dislike the look of the Panamera, but calling it the German Aztek is over the top.
After all, the Panamera outsells all 911 variants combined and is only second to the Cayenne, so there must be people out there liking the looks.

I certainly know the reason why the Panamera outsells most. As an Arab my self from UAE, the Panamera , no offense, is like a taxi cab in here. Everyone gets one, you ask me why? Well for the main reason, which it is attractive only because it is expensive and this is extremely stupid and I feel sorry for those idiots that buys cars for other people to get impressed .

For me I'm 22 and I drive an e55 2005. Extremely happy with it . I drove the s550 and it doesn't suit me at all, IT IS TOOOO COMFY.

If I were you and I'm 30 it would be definitley an E63 S without even thinking twice. The only thing I hate about porsche is the Command, Nav, etc style. It is extremely stupid but the design of the dashboard is incrdible. But still I would consider an AMG ROAR, Mouse + Command unit + Panoramic roof + LOOKS.

One more thing, Just go test drive as much options you have. You will feel the spark when you ride the one most suits you.

Goodluck
