Great gas mileage

Great gas mileage-image-1269216348.jpg

I haven't posted anything here for quite a while but I thought I would show you proof of the kind of gas mileage I get with my 2014 S550 with standard wheels. I was driving from eastern MA to Akron, OH yesterday. After I gased up in far northeast PA I reset the gas mileage. I apologize for the poor photo but that's obviously a reflection of of the flash on the driver info screen. But you can still see the details. You must admit that 29.4 mpg for 381 miles is pretty damn good. I sometimes get even better gas mileage than that depending on wind conditions.

As you can see my average speed was 69 mph since the reset.

On my former 2009 E320 Bluetec I can get over 40 mpg. On my 2014 S550 I can't get over 24 mpg @70 mph. I do have less than 2K miles on the clock, maybe it needs more break in. Oh I do have 20" run flats.

I picked up my S600 in North Carolina on Wednesday with 64 miles on the clock and drove to Austin Tx over 3 days.
Day 1: 450 miles:: 22.5 MPG, light rain for 6 hours
Day 2: 480 miles:: 23.2 MPG, perfect weather
Day 3: 460 miles:: 24.0 MPG, perfect weather

I am assuming that the engine and tranny are simply loosening up as the mileage increases.

When referring to the cluster mileage readings you should also provide "calibration data" from real fill-ups (a few thousand miles preferably). The car is usually a bit optimistic, of the order of up to 0,5 litres per 100 km (but I've had a car that was showing slightly pessimistic consumption figures).

I am, almost certain that trip mpg on the cluster is accurate since I had compared it to actual fill-ups doing the math in my head a few times. But, to make sure, I will do the comparison again on my trip back home from Akron to Des Moines this Tuesday. I now have about 9,500 miles on the car and it will be time for the first service when I get back home.

There was a 300 mile stretch of I-95/I-4 (heading south from DC) that I drove a couple of years ago in my Bluetec.Steady 70mph...perfect conditions...no traffic slowdowns.I got 39mpg fill up-to-fill up.The trip computer showed somewhere around 45mpg which was consistent with what I had seen in the past...highway readings that were about 10% too optimistic.

Yes I have racked up some miles. I LOVE driving this car like no other car I have ever owned. I take a few round trips to Akron from Des Moines per year and that really adds up. Plus, this time, I visited the New England area to see friends and relatives in Portland, ME and in MA.

I will have the first service appointment on the car when I get back home in Des Moines. I'm heading back home this Tuesday. I have a prepaid 3 year service agreement.

The way I see it, a car like this is meant to be driven.

Wow, jealous of all those miles! About double what we have so far. This really is a car meant to be driven on trips, I look forward to driving on trips much more than I used to.

That is pretty great mileage although I'm getting nowhere near that in highway driving. The best I get is around 24-25 mpg driving between 70 MPH and 75 MPH (welcome to Texas). I haven't really done any measurements via the pump so I'll try that and see how it goes.

I did get my S just about fully loaded, minus the four place seating and the sports package. But I can't believe the options would add that much weight.

Irrespective of that, my total mileage is around 3800 thus far. Yep, been a bit of a garage queen but going to change that soon enough.

We just crossed 2k miles on the odometer and on a recent 90 mi non-stop all freeway trip, we averaged 24.5mpg including several spots of traffic. Avg'd 60mph. Not bad at all for a car of this size.

My 2008 E550 does 27-29mpg on this same route.

Finally got 25.5 mpg average last weekend at 70 mph for 40 miles. Before getting off the highway I was at 26 mpg. I now have 1,700 on the clock.

Sport mode prevents you from using the top gear or two (I forget if they limit you to 5th or 6th gear), so yes you will see a reduction in mileage.

going to try a tank in just E mode, as hard as that will be; can't stand the grandpa gearing when starting off in second haha, also turn eco off because I can't stand the thought of the extra work the car is doing......especially in the stop and go traffic

Great gas mileage-image-270377258.jpg

Guys, yesterday I drove all day from Akron, OH to Des Moines. I reset it after I had driven about 50 miles. On this photo you see the results. I even had a light head wind for the first half of the trip but it then turned into a bit of a tail wind the second half.

I forgot to check it out at the pump. Maybe it is a little optimist but it's still pretty awesome. I can drive for at least 600 miles on one tankful.

In my case, above, the car was in Comfort mode 100% of the time.

And BTW, my S600 will shift up into 7th gear in Sport mode.

I just completed a 2000 mile round trip between PA and FL with my 2014 S550 4matic. My average mileage was 25.2 MPG. I have the Sport Package with 19" AMG wheels and had the ECO on the entire 2000 miles. My average MPH was 64 miles per hour. This is the best mileage I will get out of the car as I used the Distronic Plus the entire 2000 miles. I even got many massages out of the drivers seat. What a stress free drive.

I now have 9500 miles on the car--just about ready for the 1st A Service.

I used all the massages available many times in my 2000 mile drive. The heated hot stone massage is my favorite but I like all of the different massage types.

I feel like an idiot. I misread the word "massages" as "messages". LOL! So, I was thoroughly confused.

I also used all the MASSAGES on my trip. Loved them!

Hey Bean, I'm catching up. Coming back from Daytona Beach (150 miles) I averaged 28 mpg. Got as high as 28.2 mpg for about 50 miles @70 mph average.

I now have 2,300 miles on the clock, tires are 20" run flats.

I'm with you hyperion667, I'm only getting around 21 mpg. I have about 1500 miles on it to date. I was hoping for 24 - 25 mpg on long drives.

I have the sport package / 20 inch wheels.
I stay in eco mode most of the time.
I live in Michigan where the posted speed limits are more of a guideline than a rule.
