S-Coupe Fixed Roof!?!?
Can someone answer this for me? Is the roof on the S-Coupe fixed (non-tilt and won't slide open)?
If so, can someone answer me why in the world they would do such a thing?
Having the ability to open the roof is half the fun in a large sport coupe such as this!
Thanks

My guess....lower roofline of new S Coupe (vs prior-gen CL) meant fixed glass Magic Sky Roof allows greater headroom than that possible w/a motorized sunroof
As a fanatic about enjoying nuances of 65 engine/exhaust/gearbox music (at any speed in SportPlus mode), have found that CL/SL65 music can be best enjoyed w/roof&all windows closed&any stereo/iPod off, as wind, tire/road, etc noises otherwise interfere....doubt 65 Coupe will prove different
Also, likely greater torsional rigidity w/a fixed roof (frankly prefer just a fixed high-strength steel roof rather than MagicSky glass) may entail greater chassis stability/precision.....and greater protection in any rollover/major side impact collision (as does any incremental headroom esp in rollover)

I have the exact same question. I know the roof is fixed on cars that have magic sky roof but what about cars that don't have magic sky roof?

It is fixed due the large single pane of glass. Magic sky or not. Sorry!

if this is a fixed or tilt only roof, I will NOT be buying the vehicle for that one reason only. complete deal breaker IMO. sounds trivial but having a sliding roof is just so much more enjoyable.

It is a fixed roof - just looked on MBUSA. I am not thrilled about this at all. I can understand why they would have a fixed roof.

You guys clearly don't get the engineering and limitations involved with the coupe roof. All that glass would have to slide out and over the top of the roof. That would create a lot of wind buffeting and look terrible, like a 90's Ford Probe or something. There is far less space for the sunroof with the coupe. Now they could have gone with a regular size roof, but then you would complain about it not being a pano roof or that it was too small.

The other complain I have is lack of option availability - magic sky roof was unavailable until Sept 3 rd decade so consumers have to decide between letting go of options if you are lucky enough to find an allocation or let go of the existing allocation and hope another one comes along.

What I am complaining about mostly is lack of information Mercedes is providing us consumers on a product that has been in production for US since July. Granted the coupe is being released in a week or so but they are making cars for US market since July. If I knew the roof was fixed then I would have made a decision based on that. Also what's bad is that dealers know less than I do.

I get that, but just because a car is in production doesn't mean it will be readily available nor does that mean the final specs have been set. They build them then test and what not then usually 2-3 months later they start to show up at dealers. Why not just order the car the exact way you want it from the start once the information is made available?

MB always likes to hold options until later. Perfect example is touchpad. It wasn't released on the 2014 S class sedan from the start but 6 months later. Why? I don't know but the sedan was supposed to be with latest technology.
I did order the car the way I want to except magic sky roof which like I said was not available until 3 rd decade September. What I didn't know was that the roof is fixed. The dealer (Park Place) said its fixed only for cars with magic sky roof.

It's not about final specs. Regular 040 black was unavailable until sept 3rd decade also along with iridium silver and many others. Regular black has been around for ever.

I think you're making too much out of when the release certain things like the touchpad. The 2016 S550 will likely have the 9-speed transmission so it happens with every model year, things change.
Now that confusion about the roof is ridiculous. Park Place should have just called MBUSA and got the correct answers. Sounds more like Park Place was just clueless on the matter instead of MBUSA. I've had my MBs serviced with them but never bought from them. When is saw the coupe in New York earlier this year I knew this roof would never open, it is just too big.

Yeah I used them back when they were still Ewing, always on point. Really, ask for Larry. He sits right at the entrance to the customer lounge, at the right. Seemed really knowledgeable when I was thinking about a CL550 a few years ago. I'm really shocked about Park Place. M

Due to the space constraints of a coupe, the only way to have a sun/moonroof is with a metal roof like the old CL's had.
Since MB wanted to create an airy/open cabin in the coupe with a lower roof line, the glass roof was the way to go.
There was probably a bit of research done to discover that many people never open their moon roofs in the first place.
