There you go counting other people's money. lol
Why go "low-rent" on your Porsche when you could have gone 911 Turbo S, before laying out that kind of coin on a S550.

I remember having the $13k Designo is our old S-Class. Zero value on resale (unlike the sport package I might add) but loved having it every time I sat in the car
You might have had the wrong DESIGNO color. The porcelain /white interior cars have at least 5K premium if not more on used car maket.

You are dreaming...

No designo pulls a premium, less so $5k. Just ask your MB dealer; if they are trustworthy they will tell you the same thing. And of course, it's zero value when trading in.

I had Mocha brown/Expresso btw., but this goes for any Designo packages.

But this doesn't detract from the enjoyment of an upgraded interior/rare exterior color. Just don't expect a financial benefit...

even at a zero resale premium, designo is totally worth it.

once you have a designo car, its very hard to go back.

You are 100% incorrect
Again on resale private party it's worth a premium
Just the FACTS
Long time in the auto industry...... Trade in value no
But in resale dealer will mark up a porcelain interior car 3-5k compared with exact same same vehicle without it.
Private party DESIGNO porcelain 5k easy
Next time buy a white designo car. I know three separate owners that this has been FACT

100% incorrect?

I have seen a lot of used designo cars on dealer lots over the years and they haven't sold (or offered) for any premium (unless they also had a sport package which people pay for). Have also had several dealers stating as much.
Now it seems you are referring to private party sales which I find of little relevance to typical used car pricing. I personally buy from my MB dealer.
Now If you are a buyer that "really" wants to own that white/porcelain designo MB then you will pay extra for it; other buyers will not.

But $5k+ in the used market is laughable.

FACTS you are confusing resale value as most of the world thinks of it

In a resale, your goal is not to maximize resale value but to minimize losses

Stock S at 95K vs a loaded one at 135K, the loaded one will have a higher resale value but it will also have the highest losses

To maximize resale value, you should be as bone stock as possible because even if you get back 4k for each 5k option package, that's still another 1k lost

Wrong
Who's talking about selling?? I'm talking about buying a pre owned Benz.
I'll use this example.
A 2009 S550 both with exact same options and miles
One has a DESIGNO white porcelain package and the other does not
The designo will sell every time at a higher premium price.

Call and ask any Benz dealer, they will tell you the exact same thing.
They won't pay any more for the car on trade -in but will mark it up on the back end.
Private party you'll get a premium every time as well.
Supply/demand
It's really quite simple go to a Manhein auction and see what sells for premium prices
Thx

In your example ok on a 5 year old car price might be 2K higher, is that what you're arguing? That's a rounding error.

2013 S550 4matic (AMG sport package), 2016 Corvette Stingray.
Personally I love the sport package, not sure if I would consider the upgrade a rip off for what you get based on how much better the car looks IMO.

I will say the side skirts are kind of cheapish.......you can see where they connect and there are small gaps where the pieces fit together..........
