That gigantic "Jack-O-Lantern" grill, the "rope light" running lights, the "Hyundai Eqqus" tail lights, etc. and my personal worst of the worst: the standard Panorama Roof, which I simply HATE. Add to that, the absolutely IDIOTIC decision to not even provide a PLACE for even a compact spare wheel & tire! All that said, I feel it is still THE best sedan on the market, with pretty much nothing else coming close, so being an older fellow, I decided that I wanted the safety, the features, the ride quality and that stunning interior, and I'll just avert my eyes every time I walk up to it.

It's funny, I wrote that so long ago and reading it this morning, I find that I have mellowed on my thoughts of the W222 exterior. I still like the W221 better, but the 222 has definitely grown on me. I still, absolutely HATE the frigging Panorama Roof being standard equipment and the absence of a place to put a spare. All that said, I have a new 2018 on order and I still consider the W222 to be the best sedan on the planet. When you take the price into consideration, especially when compared to marques such as Rolls-Royce, Bentley or even Porsche, the W222 is, IMO, pretty much of a bargain.

Hi Stream,
Your quota for complaining about the Panorama roof, missing spare tires and the sport package with larger than 17" wheels has been used up . We got it...

The S-Class is a great choice although I also wish for some other options but nothing really comes up as an immediate choice.

I personally now find the W221's look to be quite dated and primarily so due to their wheel arches. The stance of a W222 is actually quite a bit more sporty looking than the W221 as that car doesn't sit as low.

I know and you are 100% right, but there are many new members since I last unleashed these rants, so since someone dug this old post out of mothballs, I figured I'd beat it again. Sorry.

I have to say I think the w221 is one of the most timeless designs out there for a sedan.

I am glad you are happy with your car! Personally I found i that it becomes more apparent after I move on to another model that I look at the designs a bit more from a distance.

This happened to me with the R230 SL. Loved the design but then realized that my taste had evolved and after a while the car just became dated looking.

Lol, I don't know what that is?

Some other ones would be 96-02 4Runner, exterior design still looks current, and S2000.

had a chilly early fall 3 hr drive last night enjoying my heated massaging seats and heated side rests and center console and became increasingly annoyed why my hands started feeling very cold. i went through every possible and redundant setting on the steering wheel and command station and could not find one setting related to the heated steering wheel even though there are multiple ways to access everything else. apparantly is more important to infuse the cabin with perfume. As for the wood being heated, range rover had no problem figuring out how to heat the wood portion of the steering wheel of my 2011 Autobiography.

having owned a 85 300 turbodiesel, 1990 350sd, 91 420 sel and still 91 560sel, this care is incredibly comfortable and efficient but i could do without the cheap velour and carpet and disturbingly cheap plastic controls with 2 switches already having to be replaced. now cars are made to be recycled rather than engineered to last a life time. on a 10 minute drive to the office, the w126 was a far more pleasurable experience.

and im glad others are disturbed by not even having space for a spare in an exceedingly small trunk.

Interesting rant for a first post on an old thread...
