well, it's one or the other, can't have both...

I hated the ride of my '12 CLS63 AMG, it beat me up over time, very hard suspension like a truck. Yes, very very fast but no where to use it, so I just sat in an uncomfortable car on the freeway. No thanks.

The S class is indeed a boat in comparison to the CLS63, but it's a much more suited application for the type of driving I do, mostly freeways. I'm happy not to feel the road. No, I'm THRILLED not to feel the road!

I do enjoy it overall, I must have been ranting again.....it is always nice to get back into the S after a weekend in the CLS......I don't mind the ride, guess I'm used to it. I never thought or felt the suspension to be hard, and true, not many places to open the car up besides the extended on ramps and coming in super hot off the highway too for the downshifts which are awesome when you get it just right

The stereo in the S class is all kinds of better because of the upgraded Buttmeiser which sounds really good...that and the comfortable seats

haha, maybe if I had an S to drive during the week I would have liked the CLS63 more, give my body a chance to heal during the week lol

I loved the look of the CLS63 and the performance, just not a good daily driver for me

2015 S550
I had the 2010 e 4 door, 2013 CLS, 2015 E coupe and now I have a 2015 S. While have been checking the Internet daily looking for updated info on the new E, I decided to bite the bullet on the S. The difference is, I knew I wanted to be more disconnected from the outside. I love the looks of the new lineup, but I knew I wanted something larger. My opinion would be to wait another 4 or 5 months for the new E to his the stores. By the sound of it, the new E will do just the trick for you. Good luck!

I have a 2011 E550 and to be honest the ride is so smooth that I really didn't think the W222's ride was a whole lot better. I almost bought a W221 in 2011 but seeing that the E550 had airmatic and the same V8 engine as the S550, I really didn't see the need for a larger vehicle. Sure, the W222 is quieter, has the best interior in a sedan, and one of the best sound systems (Burmester) I've heard (though the Naim in the Bentley is still better). However, the E550 still floats over suspension joints even on run-flat tires and rides 90% as good as the W222. There is more road noise, but the E550 more fun to drive with better steering feel and road feel than the W222.

It's my dad's daily driver, but I love driving the E550 due to the amazing airmatic suspension. It rides like a dream even in sport mode. I'm getting a 2016 Audi A6 3.0T with 20" wheels and sport suspension, because I'm a young guy and want something sportier. The new Audi A6 has double pane glass like in the A8, making it whisper quiet inside. Even on 20" wheels and sport suspension, I still find the Audi too soft and floaty which is surprising. I've always been a BMW fan, but lately BMW is disappointing in terms of quality and only the 650i gran coupe interests me. The car is beautiful and sporty to drive but rides way too stiff and the seats are way too hard. I think the Porsche Panamera is has the best blend of comfort and sportiness of any vehicle out there. It rides almost as good as an S-class if equipped with air suspension but is best handling mid-size sedan I've driven. I like it's interior better than the W222 but I hate how it looks.

c^2: I have the same opinion. I replaced a 2014 E350 4M luxury with 17" wheels and without AirMatic for a 2015 S550 4M with 19" wheels. The current E really has a nice sublime all-around ride/handling combination that challenges the higher priced S. The E is also more maneuverable around town and parking lots than its larger brother. And while the S has a extremely smooth freeway ride...the W222 is only slightly better than the W212.

I've had a '13 E350, then a '14 E350 and now a '15 S550

in my experience, the E class has a slightly less smooth ride compared to the S class, primarily from having a shorter wheel base and being a lighter car, however considerably more road noise

the E class is much more maneuverable, especially in tight spaces

however, for me, the driving experience of the S class: it's luxurious interior, quietness, awesome stereo and "living room" comfortable seats make it incomparable to the E class

Big difference in ride quality between E350 and E550. E550 has airmatic suspension similar to the one used in the S-class. E350 has regular steel suspension. You can raise the E550 up or down. I like the W222 interior but found it frustrating to use. You have to go into a bunch of confusing menus to change something really simple. I found the W222 steering too loose and light on the highway- I had to make tiny corrections to make to the car go straight. I also found the new transmission busier than the one on my E550. I could feel it constantly hunting for the right gear when cruising on the freeway. Stepping on the gas felt less responsive than the E550 even in sport mode, which left me quite disappointed considering it has more power than my E550. It failed to engage me in the driving sense. I felt I should have my own driver and be spending more time in the back. The only thing that was engaging for me was the interior, I felt I was commanding a luxury yacht. The Burmester stereo is so crisp and detailed that it is better suited for classical music than modern pop music. It exposes any flaws in badly recorded pop music. The Naim in the Bentley may not have the detail of the Burmester, but man the bass is so tight that listening to uptempo music is a pleasure and makes all types of music a joy to listen. The Naim system is more musical and engaging whereas the Burmester is more clinically sounding analyzing every single detail in the music. I've also heard high-end B&O (BMW 650i grancoupe), Mark Levinson (Lexus IS350 f-sport) and B&W system (new Volvo XC90). Nothing compares to the perfectly tuned Naim system in the Bentley. The B&O had too much bass, the Mark Levinson had unrefined highs, and the B&W was too warm, polite sounding. I sometimes go to a Bentley dealership just to listen to their sound systems wishing I had something similar in my cars. The W222 S-class is the best bargain right now for Bentley levels of luxury, but I wish Mercedes made it as engaging to drive as a Jaguar XJ.

E200 Estate
I'm on my 4th E-Class (W124, W211, W212, and now S212), but in between W124 and W211 I've also had a W140 S-Class. Loved 'em all, and having lots of fun with my new 2016 E wagon right now, having picked it up for just less than 2 weeks.

The main reason I switched back to E-class is the size. I'm in a crowded city, and E is just much easier to drive in tighter streets when needed. If this is not an issue for you, then by all means go for the S-Class! with AMG package and 20" rims if you please! it's the only way to do it!

My preference would be the features and refinement of the S in the size of the E.

I am increasingly leaning towards the new E, it would be in at the showroom in next couple of months.

S coupe? just 5 inches longer and 1.5 inches wider than an E sedan

That's a possibility. I love the design, inside and out.

I was going to wait and trade my 2010 E for the 17 E but then fell in love with the S550 4Matic this month. I just could not resist and have no regrets ! Just an incredible car all around to own. Happy birthday gift to myself

I have the same care, love it, had a '13 and a '14 E350, not even close to being in the same league as the '15 S550V4, just a pleasure to be in

The E550/E63 is the best overall MB period.

there has always been such a huge division in the drive characteristics and quality of interiour materials between the s and well everything else benzo has to offer. benzo really stepped up the game on comfort and elegance of the new s in 2014. i'll be interested to see if the new e also makes the great leap forward as they did the s perhaps narrowing the gap between the two in terms of the aforementioned drive dynamics and comfort.

it should however im young and in shape and the w212 is plenty comfortable and does not gear towards all the technology that appears in the new w213 interior.

Some shots of the interior reveal an upmarket design very similar to the one in the latest S-Class. There's a digital screen sitting at the top of the center stack and four round air vents below it. Like in the S-Class, the digital screen probably flows into the car's main instrument cluster.
Though yet to be confirmed, though it’s looking likely given the length of this prototype, the new E-Class will have a longer wheelbase than the current one. The car is also expected to once again come in five different bodystyles: sedan, long-wheelbase sedan (possibly as a Mercedes-Maybach variant), wagon, coupe and convertible. With the latest C-Class spawning new coupe and convertible variants, designers are said to be making two-door E-Class variants much more premium than the current offerings. They should be larger and fitted with better materials, too. A third generation of the CLS is also planned; like the previous two, the new CLS will essentially be a four-door coupe version of the new E-Class.
A world debut for the 2017 Mercedes-Benz E-Class is expected to take place at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show next month. Stay tuned for updates as development continues.

Lets see how much hate I get from this post,

Try something new go test drive an Audi A8. Let me explain before you guys jump down my throat. I love my S class don't get me wrong but something about those four rings in that massive grill gets my blood flowing. The ride on Audi's is just insane. When you come down the road people know you are a person of Power. Yes the S class has a **** load more of tech but give Audi a chance, you may be really surprised.

Been there, done that. After a short hiatus with an ML, I missed my 2013 S550 so much, I decided to get a new one. Loving the W221 design and not caring for the W222, I decided to test drive a new A8L. I love the look of the current A8L. I feel it is conservative, elegant and understated, while I feel that the W222 is uninspired and both boring and garish at the same time. That said, when you are driving, the cars are day and night. The ride of the S Class, I believe, is unmatched by any other make. The overall feeling of both opulence and security one experiences from behind the wheel of the S is just the best. And, lastly, to me, the sight of that little 3-pointed star leading the way at the front of my hood is just the icing on the cake. No, the A8L is gorgeous, but as long as they make it and I am still kicking, there will be an S Class sedan in my garage, even if it doesn't thrill me to look at it.
