I think this is what the problem really is. People who don't know how to drive should get the Hell off the roads, and not buy these cars that help u drive. I can't stand all these new technologies it's BS. It also makes u lazy so u don't have to think. Just keep texting while driving, or putting on makeup. A bunch of Crap and more money to fix. Just make regular cars without all the help and fix the real problems, the drivers that can't drive and the others that are doing something other then driving.

Nonsense.
Bad drivers will exist and drive unsafe now and in the future wether you like it or not. That's life...

If technology can make it safer, more power to it...

Absolutely not. The only reason why there are so many bad drivers is because people think it's their right to drive and not a privilege that it really is. Stop giving EVERYONE a lic. Just because. If u can't back up or parallel park then u should not have a lic.

This is a useless conversation. No governmental authority is taking these people off the road, no matter how good an idea it may or may not be.

Next topic please.

new features in the S class, what about the ML?

I was watching the videos about all this new stuff coming and am getting mad with what I am stuck with. I started with the ML's in 98, then 2002 and after waiting long years got the real ML, a 2007 ML320CDI. Anybody not getting a diesel is an idiot in my opinion. However, Mercedes took care of my somewhat insulting remark and put a moped diesel (4 Cyl) engine in the models 2015.(no start-stop in the ML's? That improves mileage) So I bought a used 2014 ML350 BlueTech, I love the 6. Driving long distances with this engine and the progressive cruise is better then sex (well, I am 70). There is a lot to love in the ML but one item is creating an untreatable mental issue with me: The poor excuse of the Mercedes GPS navigation system. I am driving a lot in Mexico, no map for Mexico. So what are the Mexican ML's doing? Oh, they have the map. But Mexico Mercedes tells me it is not possible to put it into my ML. So I got a real navigation system, a 7" $100 (eBay) TomTom. The slightly smaller screen manages to display very readable the posted speed limits. For a while I could not figure out why the ML's does not, such an essential info on a GPS. Then I got it. The navigation system programer used his allowed time and limited IQ to display the current time, so no more room!?. In his defense however, nobody told him that we have a very readable current time display already on our console. My TomTom displays the next event, in ~78 miles I need to turn right. (my 2007 did that !?, but that programer got fired, too smart). Driving 1400 miles to Canada, my ML populates half the screen with sub-screens of the next 3 exits complete with POI, like gas stations after I filled up and can drive an other 600 miles. Yes, yes, yes, if you have dexterity, are under 16 or have an IQ higher then 150 you can figure out how to temporary get rid of them, however you also loose for a while the mileage and time to destination and it gives you the accumulated miles from that point. I have given up to understand the purpose of that, specially since we have a running mileage display already on our console. I guess they forgot to tell that to the prog...., never mind.
My father died at 93, my mother is still kicking at 92, so I figure I might have 23 years left to drive my 2014 ML350btc, unless Mercedes admits their mistake and put back the 6.
So my brothers and sisters, I am pleading with you to make those years more bearable: If somebody knows a 16 year old hacker who can put my TomTom brain to my ML, and or as an outside alternative knows the private phone number or email address of the for-mentioned programer or his bosses, please please let me know. It would be the decent thing to do for an old man. I won't tell you what I am going to do with them.
Somebody got to teach them we have no other place constructively to vent and complain.
Some other small items:
Why does the mirror fold out every-time I open the drivers door? Why not when the engine starts?
Why is the electric parking-brake not automatically engaged when the transmission goes into park?

I agree with you 100%. There are several technologies that we need to get rid of and they make you lazy. Here are some examples: Automatic Transmissions (stick shift is the only way to go), Power Windows (bring back those cranks), Bluetooth (never use it), Power Steering (what's up with this?), etc etc.

During the period when I let someone assume the lease on my 2014 ML and was waiting for my 2015 S550 to arrive, I rented a 2015 Chevy Impala LTZ for a few weeks. It had this WONDERFUL Rear Cross Traffic Alert System. As you backed out of a parking space, a blind alley, a garage, etc., it would warn you that a vehicle, pedestrian, dog, shopping cart, etc. was moving towards your path of travel, and it did this from maybe FIFTY FEET OUT! I absolutely LOVED this system and felt "FOR SURE" that it would be on my new S, but as we all know, MB does not have this system on their vehicles and I would REALLY like to know why??? Does GM have a patent on this system? If so, can't MB license it from them? Or, what I would bet, being that our German friends can be so pigheaded at times, that they refuse to see the advantage of such a system and will not allow for the fact that lowly GM beat them to the punch on something safety related.
Do yourself a favor and test drive a car with this system and then write MB and ask them WHY your $100K "best sedan in the world" doesn't have it.
The W222 is an amazing car and IS the best sedan in the world, but in this one area, it has truly been soundly TROUNCED by the oh so common Impala.

Exactly the way I felt-- when I was SIXTEEN! Today, however, I embrace all of these magnificent safety devices to help protect myself and my family from all the "bad," distracted, feeble, aggressive and SIXTEEN year old drivers on our roads today. And, I will truthfully admit that as I grow older, my response time is not what it used to be, so my Driver's Assistance Package equipped W222 is making it safer for other folks as well.

Steamliner, agree with you that this would be a great system to have in helping to back out of a driveway, etc. Something I've seen on the Phantom and, I think, the Ghost is cameras mounted on the front sides of the car to give you a better view without having to pull forward into a cross street. The hoods on these cars, especially the Phantom, are so long that it's a really nice feature.

If new technology wasn't available what would be the point to upgrade? I've traded cars in for the most minor safety features such as back up camera, hard drive nav, Lane departure warning, etc etc.....

In the future I do think that high end car manufacturers should install certain safety features on all cars such as lane departure warning & dynamic cruise control, that way if the owner ever chooses activate said features they could easily do so for an additional fee via firmware update.

Can anyone tell me where the SD card reader is located on the 15 S Sedan ? Call me crazy, but I can't locate it and the manual does not even show. I know it has one and I went through the whole center compartment and it's not near the two ports ?

Just flip down the cover above the front cupholders, that hides the CD slot...the SD slot is about an inch below the CD slot.

To get back to the question- I like the 360 camera and am OK with the steering assist. I don't use the active lane system much although it forces me to use the directionals more. ( I tend to only use them if there is someone near who can use the info ). I like to pick the part of the lane I'm in and not always the center. I also think it might be scary for some when the vehicle is pulled back quickly under speed. The auto dimming and adjusting headlights are great. The preloading brakes are good too. I generally like to be in charge and before Distronic plus I never used the cruise control. Finding I am starting to use it more now so I guess I approve of it. Dave

Are you serious? The new technology makes cars so much safer that I thought at first you were just joking around. Do you want to go back to the 1950's or 60's models? That's crazy!

I feel SO much better now, but I doubt I will ever be 100% due to a damaged liver that stemmed from a bout with sepsis a year and a half ago.

I will try to post some things on this forum once in a while down the road.
