s550 purchase price thoughts

so the car we have decided on msrp is around 107grand....

in the southern cali market, what kinda price do u think i should be paying...ive seen all the invoice numbers and truecar.com numbers

we keep our cars till they are done for, so ill get a extended warrenty too...still have our 1985, 1998, 2001 and 2010 cars, almost a million miles between them

thats all we need, but the car has comfrot box, surround camera, few other stupid things

dealer offering it at about 10000, from 107.

we talked about lease, i dont know much about leases as we always buy cars and keep them forever...but they were saying if we did a 30 month with 15000 miles per year, the residual would be 60000 $ at that time and we could buy it then. The montly would be 5000 down and 1500 with tax for the 30 months lease.

to me, the price is the same at the end of the day? I dont knw how this money factor and such play in part

If you have never lease please take someone with you who has. You must negotiate the price you pay and put as little down payment possible.
Although the miles and month are different 30k/36 month lease. MB Financial is offering this deal on there web site, a 2015 S Class

yeah i dont need any rear seat package or anything like that, amg packs are nice but not needed, super burmeister again not needed.. .. It shall be fathers car , he doesnt care for that.

just need to decide about leasing or not and if there is any significant benefit

So truecar priced out my car for 94860$ so does that mean thats the price I'll pay. It's this site legit or bs

With a lease you do NOT want to pay any money down as a reduction of the cap cost. You will need to make first month's payment, doc fees, registration, etc. But if you put $5,000 down (as an example above) and you total the car driving out of the dealership, you can say bye bye to your down payment.

I just bought my 2015 S550 and the dealer gave me a 12 and half percent discount off the MSRP. Find the car on the internet (dealer Web Sites), call around to the dealers for the best price, even out-of-state dealers. Traded-in a 2011 S63.

i made an offer via internet to one local dealer for 95000 on the 107$ car, and they came back without haggling and agreed....maybe i should have gone lower

right. you left many many thousands of us$ on the table given that price + current incentives. BUT - why begrudge a business its profits? you got a hell of a deal at that price. full stop. and it was easy. they make some money (they are in business, after all!!!!) and everyone is happy!!! i preach and preach and preach that every deal is different and that the *only* thing that matters is if YOU are happy with the transaction. ugh. know your strike price and go for it. quit looking for affirmation from this board. be the ball, danny.

I don't think it is always about the money, but sometimes about the convenience.

If you have a company and you change your car frequently, owning is a real pain. Just having the option of turning your car in and getting a new one after a minimal period of time, without having to worry about a sale, alone can be worth the money.

I am not even sure the lease is more money, but haven't looked at it in a decade or more. I too used to own my cars, but changing them every year, two or three just became such a hassle. The re-sale market always determined if owning was better or worse than leasing, and one never knew until the time came for you to turn in your car or sell it.

Maybe I am just older and not as energetic, but owning sure seems like a lot of effort, regardless of what the financial implications are, for sure if you are not keeping your car for an extended period of time.

I definitely see your points. In my case, I don't change cars every 1-3 years, so it works for me.

Like most things, the answer is "it depends".


The cost of money and the opportunity cost of investing or not investing your money comes into play as well as the money factor (interest rate) on a lease versus the interest rate on purchasing a car and the interest rate on the loan.


The depreciation rate on the auto is the same whether you buy or lease but as Lovin stated it simply ultimately depends on the resale market if you do not lease so the lease has a "guaranteed" residual vs a non-guaranteed residual should you purchase.


As a CPA that has done these lease vs. buy with or without a loan over 30 years, I can simply say "it depends" from a money perspective. It also depends on the convenience factor as Lovin has stated. For some people it is about the money, for some people it is about convenience, and yet for others it is a combination of money and convenience--simply "it depends".


By the way, I have leased, I have bought and paid cash, and at other times I have bought and financed. The nice thing is I can afford to do any and all of these and that feels good!

we got our car tonight....i emailed another local dealer, told him i wanted the car for 92000, he said ok...i said ok and that was it...no haggling or hassling...kinda wierd experience....

did end up paying 6000 for the 84/100000 warrenty, which they "discounted" from almost 9000.

i checked my e63 paper work, that was 5800 for the same warranty without discounts

oh well. im happy....dealer was a good guy

so its lunar blue, nappa beige, 19 inch twin spokes, drivers assistance, surround camera, comfort box...thats it

5th s -class....one of each generation over 30 yrs....ill try to take a group pic....yeah we still own em all
