Ho-Hum, Just Another Beautiful Day in Newport Beach.......

I was getting my car washed this morning at The Car Spa, here in beautiful Newport Beach, and I just thought I needed to share this photo. I had made a comment a few weeks ago about seeing so many white & black 222's here, that I thought this photo might serve to add some credibility to my comment. Mine, as some of you know, is the Palladium Silver one in the back.

The street there is Pacific Cost Highway, with the Balboa Bay Resort across the street and the waters of Newport Harbor about 300' behind those buildings. It's about 71 degrees here today, sunny & clear blue skies!

Nice and sunny as normal in Newport Beach while in Pittsburgh, PA it is normally "nice" and gray and overcast like today. What a difference. Also in Pittsburgh the only time you get that many S Class cars together is at the dealership--MAYBE!

What a beautiful site! Thanks for sharing.

I'm going to get off topic here for a bit with something most of you will find interesting. Here is a little meteorological lesson: Here in central IA it is in the mid to upper 80s today with dew points in the low to mid 70s. Any time the dew point is in the upper 60s and higher it is very humid (oppressive). We have had it rather cool and wet so far this season, but this will be rapidly changing the next few days. Highs will be reaching the low to mid 90s with dew points in the 70's. That is oppressive folks. Most people talk about relative humidity but they have no clue what it means. As an example, the RH the next few days will be around 50% with these high temperatures in the low to mid 90's. To most folks that means that it's not too humid, right? Oh, how wrong that is. The air can hold a tremendous amount of water vapor when the temperatures are in the 90s. Thus, the relative humid which is a ratio of the amount of water vapor in the air over the total amount it can hold at a given temperature is very misleading to the common joe public. The higher the temperature, the lower the relative humidity with a given amount of water vapor in the air. However, the dew point does not change with the air temperature. It only changes with the addition or subtraction of water vapor in the air. That's why it is a MUCH better indicator of how uncomfortable one will feel in the summer. When dew points are in the 50s or lower in the summer, even with temperatures in the 90's, it will not feel very oppressive. However, when the dew point is 70 or higher, forget about it. You will feel miserable.

Here is another little tidbit about summers in the heart of the Midwest. It is not uncommon for the dew points to be higher than in Houston. This is because we have a so called "sea of green" with many millions of acres of corn and soybeans growing. These plants let out a tremendous amount of water vapor into the air through evapotranspiration. Thus, with a hot airmass to start with, dew points can reach the upper 70's and even some low 80's making it unbearable to be outdoors.

Yes, if you have not guessed it by now, I am a meteorologist.

Doing pretty well Hype, thanks.

Yes, you do have the humidity in NC in the summer. However, it's not any worse than it is here with hot airmasses. But the heat is more consistent and longer lasting there. There are exceptions of course. The summers of 1988 and 2012 were incredibly hot here basically all summer. Without looking at the climatological records, I'm pretty sure it was hotter here than it was in NC on at least these 2 summers.

one thing is for sure: the canna's and colocasia love this kind of weather......if I recall 2012 was the year it was 100 degree's at the beginning of spring for two or three weeks......we essentially skipped spring that year......but the fall color was actually good too

Today is a good example of how oppressive it can get in the Midwest due to the "Sea of Green". The dew point at 3:00 PM today at Houston is 71 while the dew point in Des Moines is an awful 77. Not that Houston is comfortable by any means but 77 is a lot worse than 71. You sweat doing nothing in that sort of dew point. By the way, the dew points in NC right now are in the 60-64 range.

Those new S Class cars rolling off the factory line in Sindelfingen/Stuttgart around the 4th of July were "baking in the sun."

My 16 year old son just got back from a group European trip. Over the 4th of July weekend one of the German cities he was in broke an all time record of 104.5 degrees Fahrenheit. Glad it is not that hot where I am in the US.

Off topic question, Steam, but how do you get the pictures to go full size like that? Every time I've posted a picture it turns into a thumbnail that you have to click.

I'm sure you will recognize where I took these 1st day pics on the way home from the dealership back in 2013...

Thank you, Lovin. Not only do you have excellent taste in automobiles, but from the looks of your posts you are quite skilled in the technical side of things as well.

San Francisco is full of high earning young developers. So he could be a quite techy young developer but a S550 is not a young man's car so... who knows when I was out there recently interviewing with NetFlix it seemed like a porsche 911 was the car to have when someone "made it" in my age group though.

I would like to also add that I would imagine one does not simply get to over 2,000 posts without knowing how to use snip it and paint or command shift 4 and annotate on a mac.
