Mercedes-Maybach S600 Review

Came across the review from Autoblog today. The positioning on the car is interesting - a step below a Roller or Bentley limo, but it seems like it gets reviewed favorably. I couldn't figure out how to get the image to embed, so the link will have to do.

I, too, feel the wheels are sensational. I love the look. That said, when I test drove a new Maybach, I definitely noticed that the ride was not as smooth & quiet as my 2015 S550 sedan, equipped with 18" wheels and conventional tires. You would think that on their most posh luxo saloon, MB would have insisted on THE softest, most silent ride producing wheel/tire combination, but they continued down the road of looks over function, which I find amazing.

That is a sensational photo! The car looks absolutely stunning. Too bad, that from other angles, the elegant, flowing lines of the lovely, white exterior will be ruined by the sight of the monolithic mass of black glass covering the entire roof.
Enough already with the glass roofs. Return them to the options list and let the buyers have their choice. It's not luxurious to tell a prospective buyer "that's the only way it comes, take it or leave it!"

Do you guys like the Stainless pillars in the middle between the doors? I could make some up for those that want them.

I do like the stainless, but don't think I'd want to modify my car. Who does the white car belong to? Or are these MB or dealer publicity shots?

It goes on with a 3M double stick backing, and will actually protect the black pillars from scratches if you remove at a later date.

It would be cool, but I'm sort of a stickler about keeping my cars the way they came from the factory.

I remember reading that at the time but wonder how much of this is just personal perception. The V12 is definitely a much smoother engine than the V8 and the Maybach is better insulated than the S550.

The difference would be the wheels/tires, which is an easy fix. a Maybach with 18" wheels would look horrible though. Too small for a large car.

so lovely, it makes me buy a white S550 with these exact Maybach wheels. I think its the same size chassis, just the wide lens camera shot.

The car is amazing, but the wheels look like hubcaps IMO. However, this car is not meant to be driven its meant for you to have a DRIVER. Otherwise, if its driven I would lose those old style wheels and keep it classy not sporty but with a different set and non-chrome as well.

Not a maybach, but interesting contrast:

The wheels aren't sporty, but neither is a Maybach.

The wheels remind me of the ones that came on the W220 S600's. Pretty similar design.
