Question Retarded keys?`

Greetings....

My car keeps asking me to change the battery in the FOB, I changed it, and it still asks........I used the other key FOB and it still asks.........
do I have an electrical short? Or something wrong other than a key battery? Anyone hear or have this happen to their car key?

Thanx

yes, from time to time, it says no key detected, then I have to hit a button on the key fob to get the car to find the key again and it works fine, I've changed the battery and it still happens occasionally, seems like a glitch somewhere, also has happened with other MB's I've had....

My S just had a keyless recall campaign done yesterday, believe it is recent as it did not show up a few weeks ago when I had the engine stall recall performed

This explains why I am getting strange and intermittent service from my key. I thought that maybe it was because of drops but there is an issue. Thanks

if and when there are campaign recalls do dealers email you? Or do we need to email them?

Sometimes (maybe once in 20?), having used keyless go to unlock the car by simply touching the door handle, I then have to dig the fob out of my pocket and hit the unlock button before the start button will work.

Weird behavior.

Regardless of model, my service advisor has said that there are occasional communication failures with keyless Go systems. MB knows about it, but since they do not know what causes it, they have no fix for it. So far, they just recommend that when the keyless Go system malfunctions, try operating any of the buttons on the remote - this usually resets the communication and the system, and it works again until the next failure.

Oy!

Having all of these same issues. Car constantly tells me to replace the battery even though I have replaced it twice now. Also now I have to use the Key Fob to open the trunk. I can't open it anymore by pressing the button at the trunk. The trunk button to lock the car also doesn't work. Car is going in for service next week so hopefully they can figure it out

On the older cars with keyless go, apparently, they key could be charged by plugging it into the starter slot. Whenever I received the low power warning, it would get charged after a few cycles of driving with the key plugged in.

The factory remote uses "2" 2025 batteries. I've done some checking around, and it turns out you can replace with "2" 2032 batteries. I just did this. The 2032 battery holds more MAH and it gives a better range and will last longer. Factory key batteries typically last 1 year aprox. Below are others changing to 2032 for increased RANGE and battery LIFE!

http://forums.mercedesclub.org.uk/sh...ad.php?t=60506

Remember, THIS REMOTE TAKES TWO BATTERIES. The new batteries are thicker but do fit.

My original issue of a low battery was a message on the dash, and it was intermittent. Your batteries may just be low, or you got new/old stock batteries that were low when new.

The key fob takes one 2025 battery, at least in my W222 (and also my W166 that has the same key). That's also what the manual says.

That said, it seems to be very sensitive to the battery type. I have a bunch of Japanese-made Maxells (good until 2017) and some Energizers (good until 2025) and none of them got rid of the "replace key battery" message in my W166. However, an MB-branded battery I've got from the dealer (Panasonic, made in Indonesia) seems to have fixed the issue.

Jenz, I have had intermittent stall issues, especially when the start/stop function is active do you perhaps have more details regarding the recall? Also had to replace both car key batteries within the last week or so and had a similar problem with the car wanting a newly installed battery replaced.
