How many here would choose this over standard S Class?

I, personally, would like an E-class sized car with S-class interior appointments.

Indeed, ALSUP, I've read that an E Class Maybach is planned. That'll give you the accoutrements of an S Class.
Reference the original post, I'd love a sporty S Class 4 door coupe'. All for it.

I don't think he meant an E-Class Stretch...

Here is a pic of a long version of the E on which the Maybach E would be based on. Both are geared towards China. The long E is build in China as well.

How a designer imagined it.

Obviously highly speculative...

Having 200+ miles on my S sedan, I can tell I would like a smaller car "just as nice". That is, we can't afford a driver so don't need the cavernous rear seating area, but I have no interest in an E type car. If that were my option, I would probably get an A or S 7 Audi.
I looked at an S coupe, but getting out of the back seat was ridiculous (and we do go out with others from time to time).

Seems like the new 2017 E Class will be more to your liking interior wise than the current version.

I never liked the interior design direction of the current generation E Class but they seem to be building a more refined cabin for the next generation E Class.

Also the Intelligent Drive technology of the 2017 E Class seems to be more advanced than what is presently available with the S Class.

Is the S Class going to be updated too?

Keadog, I agree with you. That's what prompted me to post the info. Sporty, big, spacious. I don't want no stinkin' E. I want what I want. S Sportcoupe' 4 door.

The CLS has basically always been an E class with sexier body work. It has been a big success despite being less practical and more expensive than its E sibling... they've certainly sold me on it - twice! ('06 CLS55 & '14 CLS63s). I'd probably be in the market for a 3rd one, if a new model incorporating the W213 interior were imminent.

I think a 4-dr S Coupe would parasitize sales of the successful CLS; at the same time, existence of the lower cost CLS will limit sales potential of any more costly 4-dr S Coupe. I'm not even considering the CLA, which falls into a totally different market segment.

The CLS is soon due for a full redesign. Rather than introduce two 4-dr coupe models that will be the primary competition for each other, it would make a lot of sense to consolidate into one new offering. In other words, reposition a single "4 door coupe" away from the E towards the S class. Build it on the S class frame. Maybe maintain the 'pillar-less' coupe legacy by lengthening the existing 217 wheelbase and adding rear suicide doors ? If smaller engines were offered compared to the W222/C217, like in the current CLS class, and some standard S class equipment were shifted into option packages, the price could easily fall between the current CLS and S class models.

The only cars competing with a such a vehicle would be the Porsche Panamera and BMW Gran Coupe. Mercedes' offerings just kill them on the exterior (CLS) and interior (S) design. Based on what I see with the '17 P car models, their interiors won't be in the same league as the S class anytime soon; to me, the S class interiors compete only with Bentley and Rolls. I know the BMW 6 is up for a refresh, but they are more competitive with the E/CLS than S offerings.

I agree.I was one of the first to order one sight unseen and drove it for 110K miles. My Panamera was sold before warranty expired due ENGINE CONTROL MODULE problems.I am looking forward to next redesign of CLS,like others I want it,more upscale than the E,but 4 door coupe.

As far as I am concerned, the auto makers have lost their collective minds, with the seemingly endless array of variants of the different models. When will we see an SL SUV? How about an S Class Sprinter Van? Maybe a Maybach C Class Landaulet? If they would pay more attention to just making the basic models more appealing and offer the customers a bit more customization options, I believe most folks would be happier. I can’t even imagine what the dealers are going through. Try having a good assortment of every model in stock! No wonder every car on the lots is black, white or some shade of gray! If this variant madness continues, they need to split the dealerships: E Class and above at one and C Class and below at another. I know it will never happen, but how many vehicles can a dealership possibly floor?

Love the S-Class, hate the airport limo image, would buy the 4 door Coupe just because of it.

Does anyone know the relative size of the GT four door coupe’ compared to the CLS or S?
