Every time I wash or detail the car, no matter what I do, the rims are filthy with dried water/brake dust that starts on the inside of the rim and works its way out around the spokes (Spin Dry Rotors). It seems like water gets caught in the rotors and as soon as I drive away not long after, they are an immediate mess. I have to be extremely careful not to get water on/in the rotors to prevent this which is next to impossible when cleaning the car. I also tried rinsing the rotors to get all of the built up brake dust/buildup out of them till the water runs clear, but as soon as I go for a drive, the spinning rotor spits out this gray mess back on the rims. I have even tried different sprays to remove all brake dust from the rotors, but no luck.
Any detail guys/gals out there that have a solution..... Best I have is not to get the rotors wet...

it is a pain keeping them clean.....have you considered a wax or some sort of chemical to make the stuff that does accumulate come off easier? some guys like the chem stuff, but I prefer doing it every couple of days with a damp rag, being careful not to scratch the dirt in....I'm on aftermarket wheels with tons of spokes too......was thinking about riding on the stocks for a while for a change....

They are extremely easy to clean, but........ the rotors hold water is the best I can figure out. If I drive off after cleaning rims, wipe down and dry, it is like someone poured dirty water on the inside and it just slings out the face. The entire rim does not get dirty, but it is pretty crappy looking. Its a loosing battle. I have one of those cone soft brushes' and it cleans the inside of the rim excellent, then I rinse and dry. If I drive away, the inside of the rim is a mess. The brush is the only way to reach the inside area. No sense trying to clean the inside since once I rinse, same issue exists. I have only this one solution so far.... Clean rims last and don't drive the car till next day.... Sort of crappy, I have these beautiful Gun Metal Chrome color and the inside looks great when they are clean.
I know some people out there actually remove there tires and clean the rims off the car and give them a coat of wax. I'm not that ADHD yet....

The best solution would be for MB to offer their magnificent Ceramic Composite Braking System on non-AMG W222’s. I would order it in a heartbeat. NO DUST!
1st use simple green diluted w water in a heavy duty spray bottle, use a good quality wheels brush for the outsides and a long reach wheel brush to clean the barrels. The water is likely in the barrels and comes out after a wash. I havent had this issue. I clean the car often.

If I were to try and clean my wheels in my driveway, I would end up with a huge mess. Then, it would run down into the alley and my neighbors would track the dirt into their driveways & garages. I take my cars to the local car wash, which is an exceptionally good one. They hand wash the car and recycle all the water. Here in California, we are facing huge water shortages, so by using this car wash, I don't have a messy driveway, my neighbors don't hate me, I'm doing my part to conserve water and this old back of mine is very thankful.

On day one I removed the wheels cleaned, clayed. stripped then applied a wheel coating. Same as a ceramic coating. Very easy to keep clean. Maybe I should say easier than prior. Bottom line these pads are brutal and shed a lot of dust. I will be switching to Disc Italia pads next. But as for washing I flood the wheels with water, wash and use a wheel brush that reaches into the barrels to clean behind rim face. After I am done while still wet, I spray on Carpro Hydro2 silica sealant, then rinse. This is very easy and makes water bead off, keeps rims cleaner longer. The the most important part is to use a leaf blower with a narrowed tip to blast away all the water in the rotors, and caliper, then wheels. I drive away and don't have your issue. Good luck
Disc Italia Hyper Ceramic pads will cut the wheel dust by 75%. I ran them on my ML63 and I was planning on running them in my 2015 S550 when the pads are due.

I actually purchased them last year. Waiting for the weather to get a bit warmer to do a Rotor and Pad replacement. From everything I researched, they are a great solution.
Wheel coatings are the way to go! Buy a dedicated wheel coating as they have usually been formulated for higher temps. They should last a couple yrs if applied correctly.
I spray Sonax full effect wheel cleaner then clean with soap and water and wheel woolies. The wheel woolies are great for getting the barrels.
I am not an Armor All fan. However, I find their Outlast wheel protectant spray helps reduce brake dust buildup. Readily available at Walmart & inexpensive.

Between 1993 & 2011, I had eight, new, Lexus LS sedans. Those cars produced almost zero brake dust compared to MB. Why hasn’t MB addressed this problem? There appear to be reliable alternatives, so why must our wheels get filthy after one day of driving?
I second wheel coating recommendation. Take it off, scrub it clean and even clay off the contaminants. Then apply a coating. T\here are plenty of DIY ceramic applications for wheels available on line. I usually go to Autogeek but lots of detailing sites sell very good stuff.
Several hours of initial time invested pays back when it comes to how your car looks an how easy it is to get back a showroom shine.
