New S550e

Wife's new daily drive, just brought it home last weekend.

Big thank you to our sales manager at the dealer, this is our 5th Mercedes from him, and he is the main reason we are loyal Mercedes customers.

Her last Mercedes was a E550, and its 4.6L bi-turbo V8 was rumbling great. Yet, for my wife's daily commute in the Bay Area (crawling traffic) she would like to try a more 'sensible' ride, hence comes her new S550e.

So far, we do love the S550e. My wife just drove it to her office this morning... 15 miles of virtually-silent-smooth-effordless drive (Heated massage napa leather seat, Distronic with steering assist, electric E-mode.)

She looked at the gas gauge, it did not change at all! She could charge the car at her office during the day, and at home during the night. Driving in E-mode, she is happy that she does not need to line-up at the local gas stations (always packed during commute hours) every few days again.

Will report with more impressions later.

Regards,

Thanks. Yes, the blue headlights and front brake calipers, they are kind of neat looking.

We love the car so far. The W-222 is a huge car, it makes the 20-in wheels look small.

Congrats,
I am driving a hybrid too , not Mercedes-Benz though but it's just put a smile on my face to see blue accents on a restrained car
Happy Driving with your new car

Can someone tell me more or link me to "e" functionality and total possible miles to tank?

Sorry, we haven't filled-up the gas tank yet. We plugged-in the car at work & home; hence the S550e was almost always in electric mode, and the gas gauge barely moved.

(Which is one of the reasons we got the S550e -- no more lining up at the gas stations, during the hectic commute hours in the Bay Area. We also heard that with the CA SB-838 passed recently, the S500e might even qualify to have the Green Sticker to be driven in carpool lanes.)

As for the total possible range... Not sure if it helps much, yet I tried to look at the MB data for the 'best scenario', just for fun:

Fuel tank capacity: 16.6 gallons.
City fuel economy (Hybrid mode): 54 MPGe
Highway fuel economy (Hybrid mode): 63 MPGe

So I guess technically, the 'total possible mile per tank' can be as many as (I guess even if we can get half of that in real world is not bad.):

City range (16.6x54) = 896.4 miles.
Highway Range (16.6x63) = 1,045.8 miles.

As for 'e' functionality, I think it is the best to refer to the Owner's Manual website:

https://www.mbusa.com/mercedes/servi...owners_manuals
The Mercedes mbrace Electric app, for iPhone, is pretty neat (screen shot.)

I might consider one of these when the 18's come out.

Wish it were available AWD. BTW axhoaxho...where do you lose the trunk space...is the battery basically lining the floor, or is it up against the rear of the seats?

It does take up some of the trunk space against the rear of the seats.

Thankfully, the W222 is a big car to begin with, so I wouldn't call the trunk small by any means. No problem for golf bags, strollers, weekend trip luggages, etc.

So far what's your real world MPG? We are getting 30 mpg on ours.

S560
Congrats. I swapped my 2015 S550 for BMW's equivalent 740e. I love it so far! Being able to cruise quietly is a luxury feature that should be standard at this level. So far far I'm averaging around 45 real world MPG's since I cannot charge at the office (I would drive almost entirely on electric if I could). I believe the two vehicles are comparable performance wise but I like having AWD standard in my 7. Take a look at some of the level 2 chargers out there. I went with a juicebox that fully charges the car from empty in a little over 2 hours.

And I learned today they hybrids are stopped to make way for full EVs, expected 2022.

PS: I see your comment is from 2016. Did you happened to buy one? If didn't choose by choice what changed your mind?
Thanks.

No, I went with a 2018 S560. It is “THE” best car I have ever owned!

I picked up a 16' S550e in April 2019, I love the car. I get around 35-40 when I can plug in, goes to down to 32-35 without. I have AMG package distronic plus and napa leather as well.
