Radar Detctor Placement - Max360

I had a Beltronics STiR+ with a Midcity Engineering module in my prior W212 and trying a Escort Max360 this round but can't seem to get good placement or performance. I've tried the left side of the RVM centered in the cutout as well as right fo the RVM but just not getting anything but EscortLive reports.

I'm not worried about the GPS function as the EscortLive covers that through my phone but getting no radar detection with known sources. If I can't get this to work, I'll go back with the STiR+ and get the latest Midcity module to run it through the dash and deal with the blind spot monitor

Is anyone else running a Max 1,2 or 360 with good performance? If so, where do you have it placed?

Thanks in advance

Did you ever try the left cut out next to the RVM?

None of the cut outs work well with the 360. The range and GPS are markedly diminished by the UV blocking glass.

Thank you. I swapped it over to my wife's Escalade this evening and what a difference.

Jenz - how is sensitivity on your redline? If even marginal for you I'll go back with the Beltronics STiR+ & Midcity module or check out the Radenso remote unit.

I don't know what I don't know

I haven't noticed it being unusually quiet vs my other cars, but I have no real way of telling if it's being hampered by the UV

I tried the center cutout and the gps wouldn't update well if at all. Seems like the detector is way too big to mount it low on the windshield. Maybe if I mounted it higher it would work better, but didn't like it there. Don't know if the radar was blocked too much because still got signals, but I found that the best place was the cutout to the right of the rearview. Got great gps lock and updating there and radar works there as well while being out of my vision. Just need to hardwire it so I don't have the cord hanging down, though.

Update : I couldn't get the Max360 to work well in any position. The GPS signal was very slow to connect or not at all on shorter drives, very weak Ka reception and nothing from the rear arrows at all. I tried moving it all around the RVM cut out but think the unit is too big with the new super cup. It has now been reassigned to the wife's Escalade and working great with the exception of all the rear arrow false alerts. I believe these are from radar cruise systems similar to our distronic.

I picked up the new Radenso Pro SE last week which is considerably smaller but doesn't have the arrows. Performance testing on RDForum.org shows the new SE is on par with the Escort Redline for Ka detection. I'm pleased so far, GPS connects immediately and Performance has been good so far with minimal false alerts from blind spot monitoring systems.

For those looking to hardwire your radar detector I found this great video that walks you through how to do it yourself - looks pretty easy with his method.

I just installed this mount to the cutout of the right side of rearview mirror for my Max360:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/122205712068

Its much smaller and was able to mount within the small opening of the cutout. I am now testing the performance of the Max 360 with this mount as the original is too big. So far, the GPS is getting signal lock much better than on the left driver side where this is UV Coating.

And any pictures of how it looks from the inside / outside once installed would be helpful.

For those looking at options:

Escort just announced a new remote mount detector 360 CI that has all the features of the Max360 (arrows) but has the M3 horn from the Redline / STiR+ and a digital backend for signal filtering. Pricing is STEEP at $3500 but does come with front / rear laser jammers as well so comparable to the Stinger / K40 remote units. They just announced this model at CES yesterday but not enough details to see specifics.

Radenso is coming out with a new stand alone remote mount radar unit with some of the best blind spot filtering on the market. If it is anything like the new XP unit this will be an awesome detector - great range and minimal falsing from BSM's.

Last....Valentine 1 has several a new patent filed that appears to be a new / improved version that could be out mid year. Really excited to see an update to what is arguable one of the best detectors on the road. An update to the V1 with greater range, better filtering and new display would be AWESOME!

Check out RDforum.org if you are interested in learning more about these developments in the counter measure game. Another great resource for detectors is VortexRadar.com - dude knows his stuff and has no bias other than our data.
