Designo Cardinal RED Metallic S560?????
An MB dealer I am in contact with, said he just took a special order, which the factory ACCEPTED, for a Designo Cardinal Red Metallic 2018 S560 sedan. For those of you not familiar with the color, here is a photo of a CLS. The huge deal here, is that the price for this special color is $6,500.00, with a 90 to 120 day lead time. Wow! For that much, what OTHER colors might we like to see on a new S Class? Here is a photo of a super special order color for some mideast megabuck customer. I love this color, but am thinking the $6,500.00 price only applies to colors currently being offered on other MB models. Still, this seems like a very interesting opportunity. So, what color might you pop for?

Not exactly new; MB Manhattan had a Mauritius Blue S550 in Aug 2015

With a price of $6,500.00, that's almost a regular option price and I've seen regular orders take longer than 120 days for various reasons.
Anyway, I'm thing about colors. I just may do what I've always wanted, a Polar White S560. It's just that if the ability to do something really different is actually there, something more exciting than plain white seems to be called for.

Beautiful wagon! We're picking up our W212 wagon next week. We really wanted a colour other than white or black but it's super rare to find them as such (I haven't seen a single red one for sale in Canada of any year W212). We ended up with the Designo Diamond White Metallic so at least it's not the standard 'rental car white' with the chestnut brown interior. I have to assume they offered the red in Canada but I've never seen one...
I'm generally not a fan of light interiors but this works so well. Very classy!

Woah...so weird. I've never even opened this thread before - the hamsters must've been drinking some funky stuff last night. Thanks for letting me know this ended up in the wrong place...
Heck, I've never even opened the W222 forum before. This is SUPER odd.

I realize that MB has been doing special paint jobs for decades. However, I have never been able to get a dealer to talk about one, let alone actually quote a price. "Oh, those are just for Arab Sheiks who buy dozens of cars at a time." Many on this board have taken guesses in the $10K to $20K and 6 to 9 months lead time, but nobody has been able to give a definitive answer on the subject.

You and I will have to agree to disagree on that one, old friend. I truly dislike the Diamond White Metallic, as it gives off a yellowish look a lot of the time. I just LOVE Polar White. Nice to see you are taking good care of my old ML350BT. Merry Christmas!

I'll harp on this again. For a price of 6500 dollars, I'd rather take a standard boring solid color and expect a hand-finished multi-layer paint job with sandings between each coat leaving a MIRROR smooth finish without orange peel and a perfectly level clear coat. Porsche has offered this as an option. So does Ferrari. This would add hours of labor. 6500 dollars for a special paint mix is a ripoff. No additional labor value.

Polar white is the way to go if your car is well-detailed and stays clean. (My opinion) It’s a shame that the the W222 is not offered in polar white. There’s nothing like the reflective gleam on a solid white car that has a flawless paint and clear coat finish. The scattering of the metallic white does help hide flaws but you can’t see the mirror reflections off the surface as with a nonmetallic paint. It is also way way way easier to touch up scratches and chips on polar white.
