Clearly there. I need to check mine visually. Does your detector get in the way of the passenger sun visor? My wife seems to always want her side down.

Not really, visor comes down fine - eventually it touches the unit but it’s all the way down by then.

Hi all,
So I purchased the OEM 3D tweeters from MB however the bodyshop just called me and said that the harnesses are not compatible with my W222. Really bummed because MB said it was a final sale.

Anyone here use OEM and got it working?

The 3d tweeters I bought had poorly written instructions and pictures. But from what I remember the harness looked the same as yours but mine had a small module attached to the harness that went online.

@Mazzy if you ends looked like mine then all I need is that box. Where did get your speakers from?

I had bought this kit, and you can see the boxes in the picture. I'm not sure how to purchase them separately.

Update: I’ve found that cars with the 3D sound option have a completely different factory harness. I think those knock off speakers change the ends to make it work with the non-3d harness.

That could very well be.

I received these tweeters.

Went in fine,.. except they don't match the car. My car does NOT have a black interior,.. and apparently these Chinese knock-offs only come in black?

I just installed the right side one. Went in fine.

The one small plug/ wire coming from the new tweeter connects to the wire on the car that previously went to the old tweeter.

You then remove the factory plug from the door panel that is going into port 6 on the white Continental module,... and plug the big male blue plug from the new tweeter into it. You then connect the old #6 wire into the female version on the new tweeter.

Then the thin white connector plugs into the supplied crossover (or whatever it is).

Fine except for being the wrong color.

Now to decide whether or not to do the other side, or return to stock. I.E. is it better to have the rotating and lit tweeter,.. or the one that has the housing that matches the interior?

And the rotating one installed on the right door.

I decided to break out the old Real Time Analyzer setup.

A 1/24th octave, 240 band RTA program (TrueRTA) coupled to a Behringer mic, and a small mixing board to supply the Phantom Power to run the mic.

The purple graph (mostly hidden) is the Rotary tweeters (installed in a non-3D car),.. and the blue is the correct standard tweeters.

So the purple you see peeking out from behind the blue is where the rotary tweeters are louder.

The rotary tweeters do sound a bit brighter, and in the graph, produce a roughly 3 - 7 db hump in volume between 4,400 hz and 9,200 hz

I had to re-install the stock ones to do this test, and I think I'm going to leave the stock ones installed.

Thanks for running the test. Just what I suspected. However, I think the main reason people do the swap is for the looks rather than the sound improvement.

If you really want to improve the sound in the non 3D system you need to upgrade the amps and add a sub. That is what I am doing, NAVTV makes an optical to toslink adapter that grabs the digital signal from the head unit and converts it to toslink, removing the factory Burmester amp but retaining all other functionality. Going with two JL Audio VXi amps, the 1000/1 for the JL W7 10" woofer and 600/6 for the mid base, mids and highs. With a proper tune it should rock. I already have the sub and sub amp installed and looking to do the VXi 600/6 and toslink now. Right now I am just tapped into the subwoofer outs and doing a LOC to get signal but the Burmester DPS does something to the signal to make it do weird stuff occasionally. My guy says he can make the factory speakers sing with a new clean signal and amp. Going to use the front subs as a mid bass driver, other than that, excited to hear how it sounds.

I have the same interior in my car and looked to do this but was put off by the fact they are only available with black plastic. However, my friend has a paint shop and he reckons it would be easy enough to mix a colour to match the existing grey plastic so I am looking to do this next....

I did this in my 2017 S550 and my only complaint is that the LED (Blue color setting at least) is not the same shade of blue as the car's ambient lighting. It's not horrible - but it does bug me a little bit that they aren't the same shade. It is what it is I guess. I don't notice a sound quality difference really. Honestly, I don't really even notice them turning on/off and rotating. Probably wouldn't do it over again.

Yeah, I backed out the idea. I did not like the thought of adding cheap Chinese knock stuff to such a nice interior.

GLC Coupe, S63L W222
Received my kit 2 days ago and installed them to my car today, in my S63L they were quite fiddly because I have additional clip mounts which had to be removed but got there in the end.

It looks absolutely amazing and I also checked stock tweeter compared to this 3d one and not much difference unless you play the correct sound/music and compare closely.

The led on the 3d rotates and changes to all the colors as factory. Shades are slightly off but not enough for anyone to notice unless your picky like me lol

I'll upload a video shortly. I paid around the £260 mark, apparently there are a few versions, too cheap then apparently not great quality. My Chinese friend who lives in Shenzhen ordered and sent them to me and he showed 2 different versions to him before buying.

Hey @kamkaz . I have question about your experience with 3D burmester tweeters. Have you installed them? How did you solve the issue you had? I also have such OEM twetters, but don't know how to plug them

We surfaced that the OEM rotating tweeters use a whole different harness... so it was a show stopper.

Just bumping this thread to see if anyone else purchased these and if they're still performing well. Has anyone experienced any codes/errors?

Mine have been running smooth as ever for 3+ years no problems whatsoever.

As for the interior not matching...I would think it be very easy if you're a bit hand with paint you could easily spray those to be 100% if not 99.5% perfect match to your gray!!
